A few weeks ago I started hitting mute, face time etc. At the time, I didn't even know the phone had a proximity sensor, so didn't know what I was looking for. After getting a few peoples opinions, including a Verizon Store tech where I got the phone, I started googling. Did the hard reboot and no change. Looked up the location of the sensor online and realized the screen protector film i had recently installed didn't have a hole for. Took it off and it works fine! So simple....
3 Days ago the proxy sensor died on my Iphone 4 also....I update my phone to IOS 5.0.1, then a made a restore, I tried with reset all setings, reset the network settings, hard boot,.. nothing worked, Should I expect some new update to fix this or take my phone to service?
My wife has a Coach case on her iPhone4. It's a really nice case, but the hole for the sensor is beveled, so light doesnt hit it correctly. I took the case off, made a call and it worked. Then I put the case back on the face while the call was being made, and the screen wouldnt go black. Some cases don't work I guess. My phone only has a case the covers the back and the sides, and I have a hard screen protector on the front. My phone does not have the problem of the sensor not working, it was her phone, and the case she was using. Check your case before you do a reset.
after upgrading to ios 5.0.1 on my iphone 4, something weird happed twice:
my phone was riniging to get it out of my bag, and i open the pocket it is in, i find the screen black, not dimmed, completly black. i press the round home button, then i saw the ringing call and was able to slide to answer.
5 days later, the phone was also rining, but this time it was not locked. i get it out of the case, and again the screen is black but onlufor one second, and without pressing anyting the ringing call appeared and i got the "answer" or "reject" screen.
has this happened to anyone and can i find any solution or explaination? i had teh phone for oever a year and nothing like this happed before and i have been using teh same case for a year, it covers the back and teh fron and i have to open it to see the screen. it doesn't however cover the proximity sensor!
I found out a trick that if you plug in apple head phones the the screen will turn on or if it doesn't you can hang up by pressing the button on the headphones!!!!!
