iPhone iOS4 + Nike Plus = Bad Combination

I posted this under the Nike + iPod discussion since I thought it might have been a Nike issue, but now I see it's an Apple issue. What is Apple doing to fix this? Anyone else have problems, please log them here.

I updated my iPhone 3GS to OS 4.0 yesterday. My workout history is wiped. My number of workouts, miles, time run and calories burnt are not my own. For example, I've only run68.3 miles but the iPhone shows 193.11!! However, the personal records seem to be my own.

After my short run today, I noticed that my run distance and pace was not recorded although my time was. The sensor appeared to be linked.

Is there a way to get this fixed so I can stay on track with my coaching program? Thanks!

I have been having a lot of these issues since I upgraded to 4.0 - loss of my previous runs, difficulty linking shoe sensor, inability to link my watch remote (although, to be fair, this last problem was going on for a few mo this before the new os). Other problems I have been having include: difficulty in selecting a playlist and music cutting in and out. I though the issue might be due to multitasking - too many apps open at once so I shut all other open apps and did a soft reset with no improvement in the situation. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one with these issues. I hope they fix it soon - I have come to rely on my Nike+ to get me through my runs.

It might help to push the button on the back of the sensor a few times (short). Don't push it in continuous because then it goes to sleep.

I had the same with a sensor that i'm using over a year. It happened because i tried a soft reset advised by Nike to resolve some problems.

The first time relinking the sensor took me about 5 minutes walking around, since that it is just seconds.

If you don't know how to find the button check this picture http://www.flickr.com/photos/mafo/4772005642/

Below the exact description from the Nike forum http://forums.nike.com/thread.jspa?threadID=31896&start=45&tstart=0
+1. Give the button on the back of the sensor a series of quick presses. (Make sure you don't hold the button down for a prolonged press! This will put your sensor to sleep.)+
+2. Re-link the sensor to your device by going to "Settings > Nike + iPod > Sensor > Link Sensor" and follow the steps to link your sensor.+

Same problem here, upgraded to OS4 on my 3gs yesterday.

All my history has been wiped and I can no longer get spoken feedback by pressing the Home button.

Very frustrating especially as I can't log onto the Nike+ site through my mac for some mindnumbingly stupid reason, I called Nike+ tech support about the website issue about 6 months ago and they were generally clueless so I wouldn't hold my breath people. Apple should team up with a different sports brand, Nike are just not tech savvy.

I just wanted to express my disappointment in Apple on this issue. At least somebody is responding in the Nike forums with suggestions on a few things to help with the sensor linking problem, and to clarify that fixes to the Nike+ app have to go out with Apple's OS releases, meaning that Nike can't fix anything unless Apple releases a patch. I doubt that Nike+ is a priority fix for Apple right now, given the bad press over the signal bar issue. But I would really like to hear back from the company on any kind of timeline at all. Or even that somebody is paying attention to this problem.

My sensor wouldn't sync. But I fixed that after doing a ton of resets. Lost my history and calibration. Playlist restarts at the beginning if the run is paused. Sometimes pauses workout for no reason (loses connection with the sensor, I assume).

I'm so frustrated because I liked both my phone and my Nike+ a lot. And now it's broken.

Can't agree more with Celeste, Apple is just not supporting or trying to support. When looking how the Nike Support is asking also to make the problems clear to Apple giving me the idea that even Nike isn't getting through to Apple.

Really an arrogance on behalve of Apple thinking in how small the percentage of people is that are complaining about their product. That way the don't feel the need to respond or resolve the problem.

iOS4 en Nike+ is just not working and making the investment in a sport system of a lot of people almost worthless.

Hi Celeste

Unfortunately, Apple do not respond to issues on the forums. The forums are monitored for abuse but that's it. There is a feedback page on the forums that does get picked up or alternatively you can email Mr Jobs on sjobs@apple.com.

If you live near an apple store you can see a Genius rep or if your product is less than 3 months old get telephone support.

I am sorry I don't have a solution but the issues I have may help solve the problem.

After ios4 update, iphone 3GS does not sync at all. Attempted many times, no success.

Ipod 2G does sync but there are many issues I have exprienced:

a) Ipod becomes really slow i.e. screen is slow to update.
b) Sync is lost randomly. This has happened many times over the last couple of weeks.
c) Nike + app closes randomly.
d) Wrong data recorded...ran about 6 miles only 3 miles recorded.

I have been using the nike plus regularly for about two years and only started experiencing this problem after the ios4 update. Nike plus has been a big motivator and now with with ios4 update malfunctioning the sync, it is quite dissapointing.

advice to Apple...if it ain't broke don't fix it. Waiting for quick and 'just works' solution.

This is complete bull crap. Its been over a month and still nothing. The most annoying problem Im getting is the app will automatically start "pausing workout...resuming workout...pausing workout...resuming workout"
I cant believe that Apple or Nike wont address this. Its the same thing I get when I had problems with the Tom Tom navigation app. I call tom tom and they say its apple. I call apple and they say its tom tom. We pay alot of money for a better alternative to PC crap and then apples stuff starts working like PC crap...
Can I get my money back for a defective product?

It appears I have the same problem as well, I have a bit of a delay when press the home button to when my workout details are correct, I just thought it was because the screen doesn't 'refresh' whilst it's idle, I noticed a couple of occasions there was no feedback but assumed this was because I had knocked my phone on to silent, it has worked for the last couple of days though! Then there is this huge problem with keeping distance, my clock keeps running (as do I!) but my pace is shown as 00 00 and my distance remains the same, today I ran 6.78 miles it only recorded 4.25 miles, a right pain in the arse if you ask me, and very disheartening! I thought it was another problem with compatibility with the iPhone 4 as Apple in their infinite wisdom always seem to change compatibility (have had 3 ipod jacks for my car since new versions have come out) APPLE, SORT IT PRONTO.
