Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
My camera on my iphone 4 is not working at ALL. I click to open it and it shows the lenses as if it isn't opening. Is this happening to anyone else? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

No rhyme or reason, really. Restarted multiple times last night, toggled Airplane mode on and off, tested all other apps / functions (which were fine) then gave up. It had worked earlier, after not working at the outset), then a third party app -- Hipstamatic -- messed it up again. Rested overnight then held down power and the lock/unlock button for 10-15 seconds and functionality was restored.
I have the same issue. I called Apple this morning and they are telling me it's a hardware issue. All they did was schedule me for an appointment at the store tomorrow.
Mine was working again too when I woke up this morning. Then, after taking two photos, the screen got all these vertical multi-colored bars on it and the camera stopped functioning again. I went to the Apple store this morning, walked to the front of the line, explained my problem to an employee, and they ushered me in the store and gave me a new iPhone. They said I was the first they'd seen with the problem.
Same situation here. Going to the Camera app just shows a black screen, with no picture/video input coming through.
I've called Apple and got a support ticket and an appointment at the Genius Bar.

Wait! Try this. So my camera hasn't worked at ALL! I've been messing with it trying to get it to work. I opened the camera app and did a hard reset (holding power and home) while stuck on the shutter screen and now the camera works! The weird part is, after the phone restarted it moved the camera icon out of my bottom row of apps? Maybe it's just from messing with it so much I don't know...
I wish that fixed mine too 😟 still nothing
youll see this alot if 3rd party apps on the iphone
either close the running apps or restart phone
NON - Destructive method
1 close running apps
2 Power down ihone - "slide to power" you know....lol
3 then while OFF - HARD RESET

Before the reset I toggled the restrictions, airplane mode, bluetooth, and facetime on and then off...
Iphone tech, i dont have any apps on the phone at all
This was like this out of the box, its definitely dodgy hardware it would seem! None of the above suggestions worked 😟
Apple replacement is on the way anyway, not too great a start for a product ive paid £499 for and had for 10 seconds.

Alrighty so my camera has been doing the same thing....over and over...
I think I have found out the culprit
Somehow something in the phone tries to keep using the camera even after it is closed. Therefore, when you try and go back to use it, it thinks it is still open.....and doesn't work
If your camera freezes and stays on the shutter screen, just hold down the home and power buttons and let it reset, mine has frozen 3 times and all have been fixed by doing a hard reset. I don't know if this is hardware or software related though. It does seem to be a wide spread issue though..... Maybe there will be a software fix....SOON PLEASE

Thought I'd solved the problem, then shot a 4 minute video and the issue resurfaced all over again. Fortunately, the kind people at the Knox Street store in Dallas quickly assessed the problem and handed me a new phone in a matter of minutes.
I was thinking about running down to the apple store to exchange mine, but I dont have the box with the headphones and all that stuff here at work with me. Will they still exchange it without all the other stuff?

Don't worry about the box, etc., they have a separate stash of brand new phones sans the fancy packaging.
Camera NOT working...HELP?
