I noticed mine gets very hot too. I even got a brief message telling me the iPhone was too hot and to stop using it. I noticed though, that the phone is hotter on the right side of the phone - including the right side of the steel band. This leads me to believe that the battery is heating up. (I think the battery is on the right). Because the battery is so much bigger than the 3gs and takes up a very significant part of the inside of the phone, I'm not surprised that you can feel the heat through the phone casing.

When you say right side, you are talking about the screen facing toward you? If that is the case, no it is not your battery that is heating up. If go to www.ifixit.com and look at carefully, the right side (screen facing you), is the ram and the CPU), and the left side (screen facing you) is where the battery is located. Now if the left side was hot, then yes something is wrong with your phone, but if it's the right side, you have been using a lot of power to cause the ram and the cpu to warm up or even heat up.

So if you play with your phone constantly, you will notice that the right side gets warm to the touch, but the left side isn't warm.

same problem here. i'm having the same problem for more than a week now.

it was national holiday here in istanbul, so couldn't get in touch with apple stores yet.

it constantly says the iphone is too hot and it needs to cool down.

also, since the right corner always get very hot, please check the difference between the photos taken by front and rear cameras. (light, angle and everything is the same - no editing on the 1st photo)

the first photo: since the right side of the photo is the colors are all messed up by the rear camera, especially the right corner is pinkish.

the second photo: it is taken by the front camera - colors are normal.

I just got my Att iphone 4s on Tuesday and I still carry a verizon iphone 4 with me with used the phones the same amount and from 8 am at 100 % to 27 % by 1 pm I had all the normal things that you would turn off like push,Wi-Fi,Bluetooth and minimum applications running. The 4s got very warm during standby time and the 4 was cool and the 4 was still at 95 %. They both have the same software installed. Talked to Att tech support which was totally useless they ask all the questions that they have to for people that know nothing about the phones and after 1 hour they told me to call 1800myiphone with a long wait time. Apple needs to fix the problem. It is like the Antenna problem I got my 4 before the release and drove 300 miles and lost many calls and I went to best buy and bought the cover and returned on the same return of 300 miles and no problem but Apple said there was something wrong with the signal level display??????????? We need a fix battery or software I don't care but something has to be done.

After updating my iphone 4 (not s) to 5.0, it has been getting hot just sitting in my pocket, so hot that i can feel it sitting at my desk. i tried rebooting it and it did not make a difference. I also noticed that the battery was draining like i was watching a video. i went from 96% to 74% in about 1 hour.

After turning many things off in the system settings, it was still draining and staying hot.

I then reset the network data and now it seems to be functioning as normal.

My suggestion to anyone with this issue that i have with the 4, try resetting the netowrk data and it should help.

Cheers
