Roll Back to 3.1.3 - OS 4.0 is for the BIRDS

While I know it ***** to lose everything, have you tried doing a clean install to see if the phone works as intended, speed wise? From there you can add all of your settings. I'm using a 3G and it is faster for me, after a clean install that is.

I'd also like to know who has a reliable link?? I WISH I had of researched this 3G issue before I went ahead and upgraded. My phone is so irritating it's almost unusable at the moment. I could cry lol.

Just restored to iOS4 to my 3G and it is painfully slow in all regards. It sounds like doing one or several hard resets might help, but not for all users. My first re-set didn't do squat. Is there a way to go back to the older version?

just give it a try and restore your iPhone using itunes .. it worked for me and my phone is back fine and fast like usual

Are the people posting web sites reliable. I found one where the recommendation took me to a site that promotes the site and did not help me at all. How do we know if it is real and wont eff up our phone.

I did this. Now my iPhone 3G is running fast (knock on wood) and I'm very happy I found your post. Yes you end up loosing ever thing. But you can reinstall it back.

let me just say this update is terrible...I was thrilled to get this phone less than 2 years ago and it's garbage now!!!! Apple NEEDS to fix this update. It's a disgrace. Is there some number I can call to complain about this??? and an email? has anyone else complained?

Yeah there is a number for support but thats a joke I called them once last week because after upgrading to io4 the phone bricked. They got it back rinning and it worked ok for a few days not it is nothing but trouble. It randomly shuts off, a full battery is smoked in less than 2 hours with nothing running, txt messages take a FULL 2 min to come up. That is just the high lights so I called them back today and low and behold the phone is 1 year and 3 days old and I didn't buy there CARE plan so this was there options, send them $200 dollars and the phone and they will repair or replace it or pay them a per min. fee and they might tell me how to fix THERE PROBLEM. I already did a complete restore (3 times) all to have the same issues. I would love to get this thing rolled back to 3.????? because the phone worke fine before. Oh yeah they also told me if I take the phone to an "APPLE" store they could downgrade it for me (if only there was a store closer than 3 hours away it would have been done)

It works every time but will void your warranty. Lots of users have already downgraded with no problems.

To be honest though, why are people asking how to downgrade on an Apple.com forum? It's forbidden here, Apple doesn't support it. Apple doesn't even allow it because you have to use a third party tool.

Anyone who really wanted the downgrade can easily google "ios4 downgrade" and the first few results all work.

Apparently they do allow it because there tech support guy that I talked to told me the apple store will do it for you, which is where I'll be heading once I get about 8 hours to waste.

Very simple: Because Apple NEEDS TO START SUPPORTING IT! My 3G is slow and won't even run several of my apps without quickly crashing. I'll bet the problem is the 3G's paltry 128 mb of RAM (compared to 256 and 512 for the 3GS and 4, respectively). Apple should have given us a warning; I never would have upgraded. Apple needs to start supporting rollback to 3.1.3. I'm willing to go the third-party route, but the last backup I have (pre-iOS 4) is almost 8 months old, and apparently you can't restore any settings, text msgs, etc., from a iOS 4 backup to a 3.1.3 installation.

I cannot downgrade my Iphone 3g from ios4 to 3.1.3. I have tried everything. This is crazy. I have had it with apple because of this. The thing is, my phone is almost totally useless to me. Extremely frustrating and slow as can be. Most apps crash, it's a joke. I am in the technology business. I have a computer science degree, etc. I will never recommend an Iphone again. I am seriously going to move to the android. I have played around with it. Its openness is reminiscent of MAC vs. PC. Let's see... ya, I vote PC!!! I paid big money for this dumb phone. My att contract is not even up yet and my phone is mostly useless to me. I'm so frustrated, I could throw this phone in the river. Fix this NOW, or bye-bye apple!!!
