Is the bumpers worth it?

Probably best to wait until the antenna dust settles in the next couple weeks. My iPhone 4 has no issues with the antenna at all, no matter how I hold it or how much of the antenna surface area is covered by my hand. Time will tell.

i just got the phone today and its absolutely beautiful! however, there is no question that the phone MUST have a protective case on it. a ordered a black bumper and its shipping out tomorrow. (its a shame they didn't ship both packages together, ***)

It's good to hear that not everyone who has a brand new iPhone4 has sweaty palms! 😉

Very interesting. Thanks for posting that link. The video shows the 3GS having the same reception issue I'm having with my iPhone 4. A case or bumper will probably solve the problem.

Has anyone seen/bought an off-brand bumper that doesn't cost the ridiculous $30 Apple is charging?

the Apple bumper is really nice... it's a combination of a hard plastic shell and a slim soft rubber lip around the front and back edges so you get a good grip (I have "slippery fingers whenever I mix phones and walking my dog, So I like rubberized cases with a little "stickiness" to them.).

The control buttons work really smoothly and flawlessly.
Unlike most cases for phones, the bumper doesn't have cutouts for the buttons on the phone, but actually it's own steel buttons that fit perfectly over the ones on the phone. They are just as responsive as the one that are on the phone and as easy to access. If you are going with another brand (though I haven't seen any yet), I would check out how the buttons are handled and make sure that they've been implemented well...

eBay is your friend. You can purchase the whole color collection for less than one bumper, and it's more protective, in my opinion...

I got a belkin case from best buy, the one thats hard silicon. I will probably return it bc the buttons are hard to press, and the material is too grippy to easily use with pockets.

Yeah, true, they're cases, but still...if you want to show off the back of your phone and protect it for $30, go for it. Personally for me, I'd rather protect the entire back of the phone for $2. 🙂

I got the Apple bumper along with the Zagg Invisible Shield. I like the bumper and shield combo quite a bit. The bumper switches are really nice. Only draw back is the cutout for the dock connector is too small for my car adapter and for my iTrip. I may need an extender or I may need to trim the opening with an X-acto knife.
