After hearing that by covering the antenna I screw myself with no service, I was wondering, if I get the bumpers, would that make it just as bad, or better? I mean, essentially itd be blocking my hands from touching it, so itd be easier to hold, but it could also block the signal too. What do you think?
In my case, Bumbers is not the answer. I received mine yesterday.
1. It apparently squeezes the on/off button such that touching anywhere on the top of the phone will cause it to turn on or off. This is very annoying.
2. It cannot be recharged with the Bumbers on.
Then, less importantly it adds some bulk (admittedly minimal and there is some loss in aesthetics (which is a personal taste thing).
I was having no difficulty with reception so that is not an issue in my case.
Don't forget that real carbon fibre is an electrically conductive material and even when enclosed by resin it makes a very good RF shield. GSM, GPS, bluetooth and Wi-Fi sensitivity will all be decreased.
As for the Apple bumper, I have no antenna problem with my phone but the bumper makes it a lot easier to grip and stops it sliding off things, however it does ruin the looks IMHO.
I have no problem with my bumper. Got it in yesterday. I have no problems with the dock connector charging the iPhone and I've been using it in my universal dock without any issues. I don't put an adapter in the dock when using the iPhone 4.
My main problem is all the bumpers/ silicone cases I have seen all have cut outs for the ports.
Being a builder I want to cover up the huge dust trap charger port as I hear a loud crunching noise every time I dock the phone.
Does anyone know of a solid bumper that covers the ports up?
I remember years ago I had a siemans outdoor phone that came with rubber plugs that you pushed into the charge and headphone ports to keep the phone showerproof and dust proof. How hard would it have been to supply in the box simple things like that or even a dust flap on the charge port like what's on a VCR 😟
I run a website, www.pleasesteve.co.uk (yes its about steve jobs), if you scroll to the bottom of the first page (after the intro page) there are some great adverts on iPhone 4 cases that seem like they do a much better job then the bumpers!
The otter box is great if you need a really durable case. My husband works for the City's water dept. and is always in/around water and sand and his 3G iPhone still looks brand new. They are a little pricey, but totally worth it!
I haven't been able to duplicate the issue at all. I have great reception & no matter how I hold it & even if I follow the video on YouTube, I get signal. Putting all that aside, I had already ordered the bumper before I even heard about the reception problem bc it's the only case I could find that I liked. I ALWAYS buy a case the day of purchase & I've owned them all. I'm clumsy & I live in FL where I have all tile & we have a lot of tile here & I don't want to break or scratch my phones. I really like the bumper. It's cute. It's well made, well designed, snug, but not a struggle to get in place, it's sturdy without being bulky & ugly. It shows the back so you can see the logo, which I like, & yes, it resolves the reception issue, just in case I can duplicate the issue. I'm sure they'll fix it, but I did want these 2 bumpers I ordered regardless. They aren't "cheap" looking like a lot of the ones I've seen in the past also. You have to really see them in person to see that they fit just right. All the openings are even, it has a little silver or metal piece to go over the on/off switch, & it just seems like there's a lot of thought & detail that went into them for what they are. I like how that fit too.
