it has to be a forced reset - not just power off and power on - so keep holding home and the power bottom until the ipod touch restarts - it really helped on my ipod touch 2G - not so slow as it was just after the upgrade.

I haven't experience any more apps crashes after the upgrade - the only app which crashes did also crash sometime in the previous version iphone os

the ibook app need an upgrade is very slow compared to the stanza app.
I guess apple will come update with fix the many problems with ios 4 - it's not just us with ipod touch 2G who has problems - the iphone 3g also has serious problems with new ios4

the site lifehacker.com has guide to downgrade the iphone 3g - I guess the steps are same on ipod touch. I'm not going to downgrade - I'm very happy with folder function

OS 4.0 *****. My Ipod touch now runs slower than ever. OS 4 tested apps crash. When I updated to 4.0 it deleted a bunch of my apps and they had to be reinstalled, and a couple of them were no longer available in the US store.
Apple need to come up with a way for us to go back to 3.1, or do we have to rely on the jailbreak community to do this.
I am very disappointed with apple and my never buy another apple product again.
Thanks aApple

Hello, never posted here before. I upgraded my Ipod touch 2g to OS4 the other night now its pretty much an iBrick. Safari still works and my music plays, but other than that, that is it. I've update all my apps but they all crash, even though they say its "OS4 tested" Please!! I upgraded so I can get iBooks, I installed iBooks, and bought 2 books...it worked fine the first few days, then bam! It just crashes. Nothing works. I spend almost 30 bucks on those ibooks and now I cant even read them. What is the deal with this? I so wish I would have left my iPod alone. Is there a fix for this yet?

I've now been dealing with a 16GB 2G iPod Touch for a couple weeks that is no longer enjoyable to use. After a year of singing praises to the many apps that make my life easier day by day I am beginning to just leave my iPod Touch laying around, unused. The frustration I am experiencing seems to be directly connected to the most recent software updates from Apple. (iOS4... with metal)

First my battery life is decreased so that I can't go the whole day without at least one charge, then I notice that having mail and music running at the same time causes the music and mail app to crash.

My gas cubby and safari apps are coming up so slow that I become frustrated at having to wait for them. Doodle Bowling has delays during gameplay that never happened before, and the delay during unlocking the screen is amazingly bad. Interfaces are affected too, like when I plug into my Yamaha sound dock there is such a long delay in negotiating the connection that I get a "device unsupported" prompt on the iPod that never happened before. As far as I can tell this iOS4 release seems to have forgotten the Touch in it's usability testing. (Otherwise this sluggishness would not be tolerated.)

If a patch can fix all this stuff that's making iOS4 frustrating to the 2G iPod Touch experience then great... but I'm guessing the problem goes far deeper than a patch... as a matter of fact I feel deep inside that Apple knew this was going to happen with the new OS but rolled it anyway.

Sure feels like 300 bucks wasted right now.

My 2G iPod Touch 32GB was the third iPod I bought. I have had such an anxiety filled relationship with Windows, that I was on the verge of buying a Mac book. But the mess and sickening disappointment that iOS4 has turned my beloved iTouch into has my interest waining quickly. My iTouch and I were always inseparable. I feel like I am watching a beloved family member struggling through their final moments of a fatal disease. Just before the update, I had only just gotten the words out of my mouth praising Apple and how in love with their products I was as I'd never, never, had problems with them and they worked like a dream, nothing like Windows! I feel betrayed. Out of the "hundreds" of new things the OS4 was advertised to give, according to Apple's own Support site, the G2 touches were only supposed to realize streamlining email and home screen folders. Really?!? I've been this loyal and this is all I get? And insult to injury, my Touch runs pitifully slow, crashes... And why, why, the battery issue if we were not even supposed to get the multitasking???

But what really scares me and puts me off, is that I agree with the comment that I think Apple knew all this mess and betrayal was going to happen, and just rolled it all on out on us. A few months ago, I spent $1,000 on an iPad. So, this Fall, when iOS4 comes out for the iPad... Well, let's just say I'm not very trusting of Apple as I used to be. Seems they are far more like the people at Windows than I'd ever have thought before.

It would seem the only answer is to toss your 2G out the window and purchase a 3G iPod Touch. Why else would Apple release a buggy OS update that basically brings the 2G to a virtual halt. It takes so long to open and use Apps that I don't any more. And Mail is so messed up. I can't view MS Word and PDF attachments any more. I could prior to the OS Update. Again, Apple has arbitrarily made changes without thinking of its users. This update is a bust, as is my iPod Touch. Go ahead, Apple, remove my post for telling the truth.
