Iphone 3G slow after update to IOS4

The upgrade to IOS4 took forever but eventualy was completed succesfully.
But the iphone is very slow with IOS4. It doesn't work as smooth as it used to be. Also new applications such as the iBook application are very slow, doesn't respond smooth on screentaps etc. Who has the same experience?
I'm thinking about going back to version 3.1.3 because IOS4 doesn't add anything to improve the user experience on the iPhone 3G.

I hope Apple will listen to their iphone users and will release an update soon for iOS4 which improves the performance on older iPhones.

Totally agree. This phone has gone from being a dream to constantly annoying me. Not a way to make friends. I would upgrade to an iPhone4, but I'm feeling pretty angry that Apple has forced my hand by making my 3G unusable.

BTW, I spoke to Apple care, after moaning and complaining, I finally got through to a manager and he told me (totally off the record) how to "downgrade", the phone. The trouble is, iOS4 fixes a whole pile of known vulnerabilities.

So now what do I do? Have a snappy insecure phone or have slow unusable one!!!11

SO ANGRY!

I was able to upgrade with no problem, but since then both my wife and I have had various problems with our iPhones. For example, we sometimes can't even answer the phone, as the the unlock bar freezes.

My wife called Apple support about going back to 3.1.3, and they first said to do it through iTunes, restore factory settings. Of course, we had already tried that, with no luck. Tech support then said to go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings. This is supposed to erase everything, but leave the basic 3.0 that the iPhone came with. I'm understandably apprehensive about erasing everything and being left with a blank phone. Has anyone tried this?

I'll post the "magical" downgrade fix again for those who missed it, follow the steps closely and you'll be back from 4 to 3.1.3, the only solution right now to get your speed back like it was (pre OS4) on the older (3G) hardware.

For both PC and MAC-

Take your time, pay attention to all the steps (and video) as there are unique files for 3G versus the 3GS model, each of which are listed at that link. An app called RECBOOT will be used to get your phone back out of recovery mode near the end of the process and help get you going again for your phone to be recognized as normal by iTunes.

Jobs lie to all of us. And we must do something. All our 3g iphone become useless after the upgrade to OS4.

i think we must tell Apple to fix as soon as posibil and in the mindtime alow an oficial downgrade to the OS 3.1.3

If the don´t, we must go to everywere and show to the word how apple is treating to their customers.

BUT PEOPLE WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING, WE CANNOT BE QUIET. COME ON !!!!!!

The last I seen for the day Apple has already sold 1.7 million iPhone 4's, but I wonder how many 3G users are ******-off because the iOS4 upgrade slowed their 3G's down to the point you now hate your iPhone, all the while Apple is promoting the iOS4 upgrade for the 3G iPhone, do your self a favor and don't upgrade it but if your reading this it's probably to late, I'm sorry I upgraded!

I loved my 3G iPhone before the iOS4 upgrade and now I absolutely hate it, this has been by far the worst upgrade yet in my opinion. When txt is opened I can literally count, 1000-one, 1000-2, 1000-3, 1000-4 and then the txt window opens.

I can no longer play the iPod and use any other program with out my music chopping up as it plays, the apps crash before opening, I have to wait 2-4 sec's for the key board to come up when needed.

How ever my download and update was seamless, I'm using a MacBook Pro, up until it completed and I found that it made my iPhone slow down so much that I actually hate this phone now. It's like using my dual core computers, then putting me back on an old IBM 286 computer.

I have called Apple so many times, trying to find a way to revert back to the 3G-OS system, Apple is telling me it can't be done, I'm sorry but I'm not buying that it can't be done.

Apple should have never said that the iOS4 update is 3G compatible, it wrecks a 3G phone in my opinion. I personally feel that Apple needs to make this good for the owners of all 3G phones and make a simple way of resetting the phone back to OS3, they need to provide up with a software link/download.

If anyone knows how to do this by all means plz let me know. I have an appointment with Apple tomorrow, I've already been told several time your S.O.L. buddy and your phone is put of warranty. Apple has wrecked my perfectly working 3G phone by telling me the IOS4 is 3G compatible, I too have learned that I will always wait before upgrading any OS system from here foreword and not to take Apple at their word anymore. I will wait and watch to see what the general public has to say. Because we the end users are the ones who will be more reliable then the manufactures.

Those of you who did not experience your 3G slowing down after the iOS4 update, count your blessings.

Our experience was pretty much as yours - seamless update, terrible result ... please provide them with feedback, via the link mentioned two posts before yours - keep it short, they'll soon work out the detials for themselves, key thing is to get them alerted !

Absolutely right. But not just alert them. We need to make it clear about the depth of our discontent. Over 30,000 Apple customers have viewed this single thread so far. If all of those people would take the time to submit feedback to Apple, Mr. Jobs and co would then know there's a tsunami of customer dissatisfaction heading their way.

Here's the link. _Use it._

yep, quite agree - we should've known better, too, having been caught-out in this way by Snow Leopard (*) ...

(*) printer stopped working properly off our iMac & although Apple were v.responsive in getting the driver updated it went off again when 10.6.4 came along - and our 3G stick had to be moved to the MacBook Pro which we've had to keep on 10.5.8 to accommodate it & EyeTV - all doubly annoying because we shelled-out for the family pack Snow Leopard & iLife & iWork box-set)
