Iphone 3G slow after update to IOS4

i called tech support since i still have some apple care warranty left on my iPhone 3G. the guy said that apple knew what was going on, and that they would have some sort of fix in the near future, some from of iOS4 that would fit better to iPhone 3G. i was about to ask why that wasn't just done from the beginning.....don't know why i didn't. he mentioned that he could tell me how to downgrade to OS3, like others have figured out in this forum, but he also acknowledged that these are not procedures endorsed by apple. anyway, that's what i got from apple tech support. i'm not sure i really care anymore since i have an iPhone 4 on the way. man, i've been brainwashed by apple...lol.

Not sure what is happening with the email. If you have wallpaper visible behind your buttons, you have a 3GS, not a 3G. The slowdowns appear to be happening with iPhone 3G only.
I have a 3G. My email is OK, but apps take much longer to start up, even after 2 x hard resets.

I too have a much slower 3G after the update. I find that the maps app is now useless. Apple please respond to this request:

When introducing a new OS tell your users (they paid good money for your product and many are loyal to the brand): This update is for 3GS and the new iPhone4. It will work to some degree on earlier gen phones but will greatly slow performance.

Otherwise it resembles a nasty version of bait and switch. (move up to iPhone4) I would move to a completely new phone type if this was being done to me--not simply obediently upgrade to 4.

But will they? I agree that all these" fixes" are a waste of time. It's a CPU and software issue that Apple has very little incentive to fix. They didn't inform 3G users of this problem because "it's time to upgrade" if you're carrying around one of those clunky 3G affairs. I do want to upgrade and the iPhone 4 sounds very good. I hate being tricked into it though. Apple makes great looking stuff but there're always flaws . The iPad for example has iffy wifi reception ( mine does and I'm not alone). The iphone makes random calls from the contact list ( never acknowledged by Apple). The apps used to crash all the time--that was hugely frustrating. You have to hold the new phone in such a way that you don't interfere with the antenna. And lastly -our problem--the os upgrade was never designed with the 3G in mind.

Apple: your design is great. Lots of interesting innovation. Just make everything work!

If enough 3G owners submit a formal complaint, perhaps they will notice the extent of the problem and do something about it.

The last I seen for the day Apple has already sold 1.7 million iPhone 4's, but I wonder how many 3G users are ******-off because the iOS4 upgrade slowed their 3G's down to the point you now hate your iPhone, all the while Apple is promoting the iOS4 upgrade for the 3G iPhone, do your self a favor and don't upgrade it but if your reading this it's probably to late, I'm sorry I upgraded!

I loved my 3G iPhone before the iOS4 upgrade and now I absolutely hate it, this has been by far the worst upgrade yet in my opinion. When txt is opened I can literally count, 1000-one, 1000-2, 1000-3, 1000-4 and then the txt window opens.

I can no longer play the iPod and use any other program with out my music chopping up as it plays, the apps crash before opening, I have to wait 2-4 sec's for the key board to come up when needed.

How ever my download and update was seamless, I'm using a MacBook Pro, up until it completed and I found that it made my iPhone slow down so much that I actually hate this phone now. It's like using my dual core computers, then putting me back on an old IBM 286 computer.

I have called Apple so many times, trying to find a way to revert back to the 3G-OS system, Apple is telling me it can't be done, I'm sorry but I'm not buying that it can't be done.

Apple should have never said that the iOS4 update is 3G compatible, it wrecks a 3G phone in my opinion. I personally feel that Apple needs to make this good for the owners of all 3G phones and make a simple way of resetting the phone back to OS3, they need to provide up with a software link/download.

If anyone knows how to do this by all means plz let me know. I have an appointment with Apple tomorrow, I've already been told several time your S.O.L. buddy and your phone is put of warranty. Apple has wrecked my perfectly working 3G phone by telling me the IOS4 is 3G compatible, I too have learned that I will always wait before upgrading any OS system from here foreword and not to take Apple at their word anymore. I will wait and watch to see what the general public has to say. Because we the end users are the ones who will be more reliable then the manufactures.

Those of you who did not experience your 3G slowing down after the iOS4 update, count your blessings.

Apple doesn't read these forums. Please direct your feedback directly to Apple so that they will be aware of the depth and breadth of the many problems affecting the 3G. Simply cut and paste the text that you posted here, and submit it to them.

all this is rather odd - double re-boot worked well for us, and others, why not for everyone ?

OK, the 3G could be a touch slower than before, but wouldn't argue the difference - it all seems to work just fine ... Mail, Safari, iPod, Camera, Messages, Phone, Contacts, Calendar, Google Earth & Maps, EyeTV ... about a hundred apps in all, of which we've tried maybe half so far (no games) ...

My Iphone 3G was working great until the upgrade...I have have the same problem with the phone being slugish & will try the double hard reset. However, I have also had a problem with battery icon(upper left) after charging the phone, it still reads almost empty. If I shut the phone and restart it reads a full charge...anyone else with this problem?
