no sim problem

I activated my Iphone4 and it said no sim found. I took the sim out put it back in and the phone worked. Five minutes later said no sim. Took it to the AT&T store and had a new sim put in. The phone worked for a few minutes then went back to no sim. Spent a few hours on home phone with apple. Tried reset but still happening. No answers from apple. Has anyone else had this happen?

I was continually getting the "NO SIM" message on my new iPhone 4. After reading much of this thread and trying several reboots and several attempts at re-inserting the SIM, I was able to get my iPhone 4 to recognize the SIM by: (1) removing the SIM tray; (2) using a very small piece of transparent tape, taped the SIM as far up in the tray as possible, i.e., up when looking at the tray immediately after removing it; and (3) re-inserted the tray with the SIM taped onto the tray. So far, my iPhone 4 hasn't given me the "NO SIM" message. I hope this helps.

I also have the same issue. I have a 32 GB version that came in the mail on the 24th from and AT&T preorder. It sounds like replacing the SIM does nothing, and replacing the phone only sometimes solved the problem. I'm hoping he reported software update coming tomorrow will fix the problem, if not, I'll be visiting the Apple store.

When the problem pops up in the meantime I toggle airplane mode on and off until it works. Sometimes it does it first time, sometimes I have to do it a dozen times.

The issue seems to happen mostly when I am doing something with my phone. I has happened while leaving it plugged into my computer, but never while just chilling in my pocket. Sometimes it will go half the day without a problem, other times it will happen every couple of minutes. blegh 😟

I had the same problem as everyone else: "No SIM Connected" messages. Popped the card and problem went away for an hour. Toggling Airplane Mode brought back connectivity temporarily.

Then I removed the card and thoroughly scrubbed the contacts with an eraser to clean them. Blasted off the crumbs with canned air. Reinserted card and have had no problem since yesterday.

Fingers crossed, this may have solved it.

Would someone else try it and report back?

I tried this, and thought my problems were solved! Until 30 minutes later when I got the 'No SIM' message again grumble

I've got a Genius bar appt tomorrow. I haven't yet replaced the SIM at an AT&T store. Trying to avoid them if possible. Is the software update that is supposed to "fix" this problem happening tomorrow? Debating waiting until after that, and rescheduling the appt for later in the week. I'll see how much it annoys me tonight, I guess.

*laborious SIGH*

Got the iPhone 4 on 6/24 used it only at home all that evening, no problems. Friday the 25th I headed downtown NYC at 12pm plugged in my headphones and hopped on a train with my phone in my right pocket. Approximately 4 hours later after walking the equivalent of ten city blocks I look at my phone and "No Sim" :/

Played with Airplane mode (no change), played with other settings (no change), rebooted the phone -BINGO got full bars and 3G network! It was short lived... Hopped on the same train, listening to music got home took phone out of pocket- "No Sim" (in bar area) AND "No Sim Card Installed" popup on the center display. Played with settings (again), then ejected sim, reinserted it, then started to get full bars with AT&T next to them. A moment later no bars at all, then full bars and a "E" were the "3G" should be. Checked settings in "Network" 3G was on. A moment later NO BARS, this back and forth went on for about 5 mins till I got sick of it and rebooted the phone. After reboot FULL BARS AND "AT&T 3G"! 😀
It was short lived. Meanwhile this whole time I was with another person who has an iPhone 4 fully working with none of these problems, we picked ours up at the same time (because their on the same account). Most of the time were are in the same room while my phone is fighting for bars (so to speak) the other phone has had full service and no SIM problems.

Saturday June 26, stopped in at AT&T store where I bought the iPhone they didn't know of the problem. Soon after leaving the store "No SIM" happened again. Just went home.

Sunday June 27 head down to AT&T store to get a new micro SIM, while in store before the SIM swap I get "No SIM" in front of the AT&T rep. SIM is removed new SIM installed. All seems fine. Stop at the Apple store (but not to deal with the phone) leave have dinner still working fine. Get home I get the following:

"Searching...." (where the bars should be) the other iphone in the house, has full service on AT&T 3G.
My iPhone 4 was "Searching..." for about 20 mins. rebooted the phone "Searching..." again. Hard reset the phone, full bars with AT&T 3G, but data is slow or does not work at all. The other iPhone 4 in the house has no problems at all and their in the same room.

So this is were I am at this moment, for what it's worth I posted my "experience" with my new iPhone 4. 😟

BTW I did notice that our serial numbers were far apart in their starting numbers (the first 2 digits) , perhaps mine came from a bad batch. Mine looked like a later batch than the other iPhone.

ok, First got no sim message about 45 mins ago after no problems whatsoever since the 24th. Had no idea what was going on. Found this forum finally and started trying things. Took SIM out, no go. Tried the airplane mode reset (multiple times), no go. Reset network settings, no go. Rebooted hard and soft, no go. Finally took the sim out and cleaned it, reinserted it making sure it was pushed as far to the "top" as it could be. NOW it's working!! Haven't broken out the tape yet, but appreciate the suggestion to do so. Could this work?

Having the same problem! I was on a call and was dropped because it said no sim card installed. Pretty much had that problem all day and it's still happening. I have taken the sim card out several times , re synced, turned it on and off...still no better. I guess I'll have to make an appointment with apple 😟 anyone have any luck on fixing the problem??

Also having the same problem. First iPhone 4 didn't have this issue, but it had dust trapped in the screen. I made an appointment at the Genius bar and they swapped the phone for a new one and put my SIM in it. Since then I receive the "No SIM" error frequently. I spoke to Apple and they said it was likely going to be fixed in a software patch.
