no sim problem

I activated my Iphone4 and it said no sim found. I took the sim out put it back in and the phone worked. Five minutes later said no sim. Took it to the AT&T store and had a new sim put in. The phone worked for a few minutes then went back to no sim. Spent a few hours on home phone with apple. Tried reset but still happening. No answers from apple. Has anyone else had this happen?

Just received my iPhone 4 in the mail from Fed Ex. Right out of the box during activation I got the "no sim" message. Found this forum and so I tried the hint to toggle airplane mode off/on. That worked well enough to establish a signal and activate the phone.

5 minutes later No Sim was back. All this time the phone had been laying undisturbed on my desk. Tried toggling airplane mode again but that has not worked. One time it briefly flashed that it had found a carrier but then returned to reading no sim. Powering off/on also has not worked.

I have made an appointment at the Apple store. The soonest I could get was Friday evening. At this point I don't have a working phone.

Can I re-activate my old iPhone 3G?

I'm having the same problem. I received my phone from AT&T on the day of the launch and it was working just fine until this morning. I sent a text message and and gently put my phone back into the carrier I made for it. I baby my phone probably more than I need to, but anyway, I took it back out 5 minutes later and it said there was no SIM! I rebooted it and it seems to work now, I'm just waiting for the message to pop up again. I am hoping that there will be some sort of fix for this soon, it seems as if getting a new SIM from AT&T is hit or miss. :/

Here are 2 different types of Micro SIM from O2. http://flic.kr/p/8fgmiE Note the difference in the size of the circuit.
I've been using the Micro SIM with the larger circuit. It was given to me in the O2 store when I bought the iPhone. Like many others, I'm getting the 'No SIM Installed' error message. The SIM with the larger circuit makes contact with the metal iPhone SIM holder. Is this the cause of the problem, does is short the SIM out?
I've just swapped my number over to the other Micro SIM with the smaller circuit (O2 posted me this one for registering my interest in the iPhone 4)

7/2 - Update
Had my appointment at the Genius bar this evening. Tech just reseated the sim card and it established a signal. Tech said he was aware of the forum entries on this subject but felt reseating was all that was necessary.

I could have reseated the sim card myself but this way I have it on record. If I lose connectivity again I will then reseat the card myself. 3rd time the phone will go back to Apple.

Same here. Been vacationing in Branson, MO(AT&T Service totally ***** here anyway) and have been receiving the No Sim message regularly for four days! I've probably reset my phone 30 times or more. Even when the No Sim error is not being displayed there is virtually no covereage. I have been unable to send text messages or use data for the entire time. Do these two issues have any relation?
