no sim problem

I activated my Iphone4 and it said no sim found. I took the sim out put it back in and the phone worked. Five minutes later said no sim. Took it to the AT&T store and had a new sim put in. The phone worked for a few minutes then went back to no sim. Spent a few hours on home phone with apple. Tried reset but still happening. No answers from apple. Has anyone else had this happen?

I am one of apparently many with this recurrent problem. I have had an online/phone help from apple who simply told me to remove and reinsert the sim card. It worked for about a day. The problem recurs anywhere from once every couple of days to every few minutes. Sometimes simply resetting the phone works. I am waiting to see if apple will come up with software update to fix it or if I need to go in for replacement phone.

We had this "NO SIM" problem on one iPhone4 purchased the 1st day. The suggested tips in this forum worked and then didn't work later. After a week of "NO SIM" problems, we made an appointment with our local Apple Store iPhone Genius using the new Apple Store App (It works great). He tested the phone in the back and came back out with a new iPhone4. Never had a problem again. The Apple Store team is terrific.

Tip: If you are having "NO SIM" problems, start a log and document the date and time of the problem and how you got the phone to start working again. Bring that in when you go to the Apple Store. Hope this helps.

Having same problem - it would be nice if apple had an official response to this issue. It would good to know if I have to return my phone or wait for an OS patch. Cycling airplane mode off and on fixes the issue until the next go around. Phone was running fine but this problem started to occur this 4th of July weekend. I have had the phone since the June 24th release date. Plenty of "no sim" phones have been returned so the techs at apple should be able to reproduce the problem and pinpoint the issue. I get the no sim message regardless if the phone is sitting on the desk idle or in my pocket as I walk.

Brought my 32GB from Best Buy and immediately starting getting the error. (In fact, when the BB employee turned the phone on to activate, it gave the error message. His co-worker/boss told him the phone had a SIM card and suggested I active the phone at home.)

Anyway, starting getting the error more constantly and made an appointment with a Apple Store thru the App. Explained the error to the Apple store employee and he replaced the iPhone with a brand new one.

Gotta say I love the Apple store employees. Never a hassle and always willing to help out.

Went to genius bar at local apple store told him the problem about the sim.
All these fixes work for 6 hours.
Turn off then on.
Reset network settings.
Hard reset.
Reinstall OS4.
Guy at genius bar said he would put tape inside sim card tray for temp fix and would order me a new iPhone. Supposed to pick it up tomorrow. Tape works well but still have problem occasionally. New phone is only sure cure.

Had my iPhone 4 , 4days. Updated to 4.0.1 Yesterday. Today I ran the battery out. Plugged in to my MacBook Pro and after it recharged and backed up and downloaded new iPhotos I picked it up, "No Sim Car Installed" on screen. Shut down, turned off unattached from computer, turned back on and no sim in att corner, just wifi... ****...

Took sim out, put back in, one bar shows but no ATT. Shut down, turn back on... back to 3 bars and ATT... Hoping it will never happen again, but this thread makes me suspicious...
