iPhone 4 periodically won't wake up

Since I activated my new phone last night, it will periodically not wake up from being locked. When I try to wake the phone up from sleep mode, I hit the home button/lock button and nothing happens. Only a hard reset seems to fix the issue, and only temporarily; it happens again 30 minutes to an hour later.

I synced the new phone from my 3G backup. I'm thinking a full restore may help -- any other ideas?

iPhone 4, Windows 7

yes any wierd software issues are from backups.

Remember backups contain system settings

Try restoring as NEW and resync apps / music / contacts back on iphone

when goin frrom software versions its better to sync than restore from backup.

iphone4 32Gb model with the same symptoms as described by others. Goes into sleep and will not wake up. Reading through the posts I think it may have to do with the length of time the device is sleeping. Longer periods (like overnight) seem to increase the chance of coma. I have also posted at http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12220051, but it seems this thread is more on the money with the sleep coma issues.
I initially restored from a 3G backup then
reset all settings from a 3G backup then
reset all data and setup as new phone
The coma issue is still happening, I can not seem to track the cause down - I don't believe I had the proximity issue.

Some people have described more than 1 phone - has anyone had any luck with serial number tracking to identify phones that may be from a bad batch?

I just bought my iPhone4 with IOS4.1 and I am now experiencing this problem and my problem is that I bought it from Dubai and now I am back in Saudi where I live and I am not sure how to get it replaced if it a hardware issue.

I think it is more likely a software issue as when it is under use or connected to the computer this thing never happens and only occurs when it is in sleep mode and refuses to wake up without a hard reset.

Please will appreciate any update regarding this problem.

We have had the same problem with my husband's iPhone since the day we bought it and there is NO rhyme or reason to it...it does NOT matter how hot or cold it is, what position the iPhone is in, whether we are on wi-fi or 3g, what the iPhone is doing at the time...it just shuts itself off and a hard reset is required EVERY time. This means missed phone calls, texts, alarms, etc. This phone was NOT backed up from any other phone - everything was put into the phone new. A restore has not helped either. From what we have been told the only "fix" is swapping the phone out for a new iPhone 4 (which we will be doing shortly). It appears that there was a "bad batch" of these phones at some point. VERY annoying!!

The reset trick helped me. Thanks! But if this problem will continue to reoccur, then how am I supposed to exchange it if:
1) I bought the phone at an apple store in Paris, France while I was on a business trip, in the beginning of october.
2) At the moment I live in Kiev, Ukraine
3) When ever I am not in Kiev, I live In New Jersey, USA. =))))))))

I am very interested what can apple offer me to fix this situation =)))))
p.s. Taking into account that last year I used to work in iStore in Ukraine, I even have a certificate as an apple product professional, and I love apple products, even though I know that nothing is "perfect"😉

I've called the customer care in Italy , they are a shame.

I said them, I hae 4.3.1 and in last three days I got two reboots while talking once in Skype and once in Viber.

they said to me they can not answer for third parties applications and that I have to forget that they will ever exchange my Iphone with a new one as the problem is not their.

I will sell my Iphone 4 straight away, as well as my Imac and Macbook Pro, and I don't want to have anything to do with Apple anymore.

This is first problem in years, after I purchased tens of thousands of euros of products, and this is the way I get threated.

You don't care about this, but you lost one customer, right now for your italian customer care incompetence

Thanks

Hello, guys! I have the same problem as you all and the worst part of the story is that I can't replace the phone, because I live in Russia and my iPhone was bought not here. You can read my whole story here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3581195?tstart=30 Please, tell me if you've understand how to solve this 'coma' problem. I really need some help now. By the way, people, can you please all post what iPhone 4 (with coma) do you have? I just realised, that many iPhones 4 with this problem are the phones with 32Gb memory. My iPhone 4 is 32Gb. If you have the 'coma' problem too, please write down your iPhone 4 model here. Is it 32Gb or no?

Hi

I know this thread is pretty old. But I have purchased my iphone 4-16gb a week ago in India. I am facing the same problem. If I leave it untouched for a long time, it just goes to 'coma'. Pressing power or home button doesn't help. After some times, say 15-20 minutes, it simply wakes up of itself. I am really disturbed by this behavior and not sure what to do.

Has any of you guys been able to fix this issue without getting replacement ?

Thanks.
