Mac Mini (Mid 2010) and Display Samsung P2350

The Samsung SyncMaster P2350 (has both VGA and DVI-D).

The Mac mini was just delivered, I connected the HDMI-to-DVI with the DVI-d from the monitor, then plugged in the HDMI in the Mac Mini.

Whatever I tried: No image. The display can't detect a signal? Seems that way at least.

I tried save-boot, etc nothing.
Checked the connectors: seem to be perfect.
Tested the DVI from the screen with a PC? Works.

I could not test if the HDMI from the Mac or the HDMI-to-DVI connector works: I don't have anything to test it with.

My old 2006 Mac Mini has always had to use the VGA port because of the "Coherent vs. non-coherent TMDS" problem. Please tell me that this new mid-2010 Mac Mini doesn't have that problem? I specifically looked for that in the technical specification and did not find it, and therefor concluded that this would not be an issue.

I'm have worked with Macs since 1990, I write software for the Mac and iPhone. I know my way around the hard drive. I don't know what to do without a display. I think I'm going to order a MiniDisplay-to-VGA just to be on the save side, but I really hope that this will not be necessary?

Please, does anyone have a solution?

I'm unaware of the "Coherent vs. non-coherent TMDS" issue, but (maybe?) it explains the problem I'm seeing.

When using HDMI-out from my Mac Mini 2010 server (to my Westinghouse LCD display - via the HDMI-DVI adapter that came with the Mac), I get really fuzzy text. Actually, any lines/etc on the display seem 'blurry' - almost like an analog signal that's got noise in it. I get the same blurriness going straight HDMI to the monitor (so it's not the HDMI->DVI adapter).

Today, I purchased the Apple 'minidisplayport-to-DVI' adapter. I connected that to my display, and all of the text is sharp (none of the odd blurriness).

I can now go back and forth between HDMI->DVI adapter and minidisplaymore->DVI adapter and see major differences in quality on the output.

So, I think there's something buggy with Apple's HDMI port (or software drivers supporting it). I hate to suggest that you spend more money ($29), but you may want to try the minidisplayport->DVI adapter to see if that works for you.

Did anyone resolve this? I have a Mac Mini 2010 and a different Samsung display. I have the digital to HDMI adapter and the displayport to VGA adapter and neither of them will give me a picture on my Samsung display from the Mac Mini. Nothing but black screen with a floating box.

Apple says all displays are compatible with Mac Minis, but obviously, this is not true. The Samsung display I have is only a little over two years old and works perfect with other computers including my MacBook Pro.

Power off Mac then unplug everything. Press and hold power button for 10 secs. Plug everything back in and start up Mac. When you hear power up sound press and hold Shift until you see apple logo then release shift. This boots up in sync mode. Set up resolution then restart Mac and you should be good.
