The update fixes the "error occurred" message when plugging in iPods to the docking cable and it also fixes the fast choppy audio when streaming from the iPhone when the phones backlighting is on. As for the sound quality while streaming audio, the iPhones (as well as some others) bitpool rate isn't compatible with Uconnect. I think that the 2012 Uconnect modules have different hardware that allowed them to change this in the SW. The bitpool rate covered the range that phones were using when the 2011 uconnect SW was written and it operated fine at that time. Since the 2011 SW was written, phones have started to support a higher bitpool rate. this is kind of like buying a vehicle that runs fine on regular unleaded gas, then change the pistons to a higher compression and try to run the motor on the gas that you have been using. Sure the motor will run (somewhat) but not great. You now have to go to a higher octane fuel.
One thing that can be done is to buy a 2012 V2 Uconnect module, PN 68104904AC (not the V1 which is an ""AK") and install it. This will give you all of the current Uconnect enhancements available. This would be a direct Plung n Play setup with no programming to the vehicle.
XSDBS it seems you are the expert on uconnect and the iPhone, I just installed the uconnect module (kit# 82212499) in my 2010 Charger with the RES radio. The part number on the module is 68104903AC, and shows HW: 14.01 and SW: 63.02.48 on the label as well. Bluetooth calling seems to be working fine as well as playing my iPod or iPhone through the usb connection interface (UCI). However I connot seem to get bluetooth streaming to function. I keep seeing posts referencing a software update but I can't seem to find any solid info regarding this. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Hello and thank you, but really I'm no expert. Just have a little experiance with the system.
The module that you have is the most current HW & SW available by Uconnect. You should be able to press the "Disc / Aux" button and the radio should display UCI and start playing the audio from the phone. Are these the steps that you're going thru? If so, is it possible for you to make a short video of your steps. Sometimes I can see something that is missing. Thanks
That is correct when I press disc/aux I get to UCI as long as my iPhone is plugged in, however if I do not plug my iPhone into the USB connection it doesn't see the phone. I'm trying to use Bluetooth connection to stream pandora so I don't have to plug in my phone. Essentially I want my iPod connected through UCI and iPhone through Bluetooth.
Darn, You beat me to this. I was just coming back to edit that reply. As I was sittng and chewing my lunch, it hit me that the Chrysler radios did not support Streaming Audio until 2011. You will need to find a 2011 RES radio. I went thru a similar issue with a guy on a Jeep Wrangler forum. When you're looking for one, make sure that you're getting a Low Speed CAN BUS radio. Are your radio mounting screws on the sides or top & bottom?
Well that blows, I was hoping I wouldn't have to replace the radio. My mounting screws are on the sides of the radio.
when, You press the "disc / aux" button what does the radio display?
When I have a device plugged into the usb connection the display reads intitializing>then reading>then displays song title regardless if it's coming from my iPod or Pandora frrom iPhone. If I unplug the device screen says "device not available" and returns to fm radio. If I press disc/aux with no wired connection to the UCI the radio displays no change other than stating no disc, which tells me that the radio is looking for another source.
Yeah,, The radio doesn't have the HW & SW to support the streaming audio. The kit does so you'll be ready to play when you replace the radio. It'll be a plug and play setup. I think you can find the radio for about $100.
Any idea where to look for such radio, and possibly a part number? I don't know if the media streaming is worth the extra money to swap units but definitely worth a look into.
I'd try some wrecking yards as well as look on some of the challenger forums. Like I said though, make sure that it's Low Speed because High Speed won't work.
xsdbs, I see you are pretty knowlegeable about Uconnect.... I have a 2010 Ram with Uconnect but no Nav. I am having trouble figuring out how to stream my iphone 4s music to my Uconnect via bluetooth. For the longest time I was under the impression my iPhone wouldnt stream music via bluetooth to my truck. I've had my truck for about 6 months now and I got into my truck the other night and it was somehow streaming music via bluetooth but I cannot figure out how I did it. I didnt even do anything I just started my truck and the music started just playing through Uconnect. How did this happen?
kagh
I don't know if this will answer your question or not, or whether I will so far off base with this but here goes. Occasionally I will have my iPhone running iTunes when I turn on my computer. All of a sudden, iTunes is playing through the bluetooth connection on my computer. I will notice that there is a small icon on the iTunes screen that looks like a rectangle on its side with a triangle on the lower edge. This will be blue if the Bluetooth connection is active. I don't know how to explain how your connection became suddenly active, but if it is still working, just go with it!
Hi, i dont know if this issue has already been discussed here, to many to read them all....
Ive had a jeep Gran cherokee 2012 for a month now, uconnect worked perfectly with my 4s but all of the sudden, i cant no longer hear the calls through the speakers. I can place the calls and receive them using the system, but have to pick up the phone to hear it.
Already reset and paired the phone again, but the problem still persist.... Help!
I have a 2011 Ram 1500 with the RES/130 satellite radio (no DVD, no NAV). The unit worked reasonably well for telephone calls from iPhone 4 and continued to work as I upgraded the iPhone software to the latest versions.
The BlueTooth streaming audio didn't work properly. I had the chipmunk sound problem in wich the audio stream would play at 2 or 3 times the speed for 3 or 4 seconds with compressed, high pitch sound followed by silence, then repeat this indefinitely.
I just upgraded the softare on the radio by following the instructions in this technical support bulletin (TSB) : http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_0801912.pdf
You don't need the special Dodge software, just copy the software update available here: http://www.mediafire.com/?qzfm7w2voa50f4m to a freshly formatted flash drive (FAT format) then follow steps 12 through 21 in the TSB to uppgrade the vehicle software.
After upgraing the bluetooth streaming from the iPhone 4 works as it should, clean smooth audio, next button works as it should.
