Signal issues? You're holding the phone wrong.

In case the Apple support forums are your first stop on your search for why your signal is dropping when you hold your phone, Steve Jobs and Apple consider it a "non issue" and to "avoid holding in that way".

"Gripping any phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone. If you ever experience this on your iPhone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases."

can someone tell me if APPLE is recalling iPhones to fix this or are they choosing to be silent on this and let defective iPhones in the market ? Why is apple not taking this seriously ? Are they liking the bad press .. its everywhere, i know a lot of friends who have stopped and cancelled their orders not because of the defect but because of apple's arrogance in handling this.

course they aren't recalling, did you really need to ask that question?
who said they aren't taking it seriously
why are you such an idiot?

all these questions ....

You don't think there should be questions, Big Dave? I am willing to give Apple a little time (a few days) to come up with a proper solution to the issue, but there should be many questions.

Mainly, did Apple really release a phone that included a feature that was to give better reception but actually does the exact opposite when used in a normal manner? Another question for you: Did Apple know about this issue and still release the phone? And if it honestly didn't know about it, that raises even more questions.

So yeah, there are some questions to be asked, and Apple owes some answers.

I am as big an Apple fan as you get and have touted their products, but this issue is a "Tylenol or Toyota like" media disaster for them. When every major news outlet is reporting the story, their stellar brand image has to suffer.

For that reason, I disagree about Apple limiting it's response to a software upgrade and otherwise being quiet. The reality is that they have lived for years by the press hype of their products and now with a serious issue on a feature that was hyped (a revolutionary antenna design), the hype is backfiring.

I think for Apple to survive this with their reputation intact, they will need to discuss what happened here. To be clear, all they owe me is a product that works the way it advertised. I am talking about what they need to do for their own sake.

Having the same issues here and seem to experience issues even with the bumpers case installed, though not as bad.

Also...anyone think these antenna "non-issues" could have caused Steve's keynote signal problems?

I'm new to the forums here but at the top of the post it says the question is "answered" yet I cannot find an easy way to view the "answer/s". Is there a direct link to the posts marked as "answers"?

Thanks,

Apple will obviously fix this issue.

After that, they don't owe you squat, Brian. I'm sure like any product-centric company there will be internal discussions how to do better the next time. Other than that, don't hold your breath.

Not so sure they can fix it, might be able to fool some people with more bars for the same signal but dropping calls is a bit more difficult. You really expect people to hand over a lot of money for a phone and expect them to accept its not fit for the purpose of making calls then go out again next year and buy another one when the antenna engineer has come up with a new design!
