my newly acquired iphone 4 was sitting on the table for around 3 hours, at normal room temperature, and when the phone rang I couldn't answer as the phone stopped running and I got the "iphone needs to cool down before you use it" message. The phone was cool in the hand at that time and was not in use all afternoon !
5 minutes later he started working again. Anyone has a clue ? Should I return the phone to Orange ?

Ive recently started having the same issue, ive had an iphone4 for a year and half now but i smashed it and claimed on my insurance. Phone was fine during the day, put it on charge and i got the same warning. Iphone didnt charge and has been playing up today, when i pick it up (its left on charge). Really annoying!! x

This happened to me this morning. I left the phone in the car overnight when the temperature dropped down to 10F. I took it inside to charge and I saw this message that it "needed to cool down". Apparently the devs figured it had a better chance of overheating than it did being too cold so they only had one message.

Needless to say, if your phone is frozen, it doesn't need to cool down, it needs to warm up. =)

This happens because of the overuse of an ipod touch... well thats what i think... its not really how it feels on the outside of the ipod but its the core of the ipod.... this happens to me alot at random times... even when my ipod is really cold... i decided to unasemble my ipod and find out why this is happening. i soon found out it was the battery and the A4 Prossesor (I have ipod touch 4th gen) you cant tell because of the metal plate around of the ipod touch... espesally if u have a heavy case on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch... the solution to this is to just leave it alone during the warning... after that get rid of the apps on your multitasking bar and try to be more carefull... lower the brightness and etc. if this occers offten try reseting by holding the power button and turn it off.... if it still occers do it again... if it happens again (after a 3rd attempt) try to turn it off again and keep it like that for 10-30 min. then turn it back on... if the 4th attempt doesent work, go to your nearest apple store and explan the situation. I hopes this helps. 🙂

I have an Iphone 5c and after updating to IOS8, I had this problem. I did everything apple support suggested and in the end had to take it to the apple store. After only about 10 mins of trying to diagnose the problem, the resolution was a BRAND NEW IPHONE 5C. I was only 20 days away from my 1 year warranty expiring, and they gave me a new phone hassle-free. I just became a life-long loyal customer of Apple after this experience. I was so worried when I walked in there that they would send me on my way with a STILL broken phone, but I was delightfully wrong. Thanks Apple for coming through on your end!
