Is anyone experiencing a real slowness in the 3G data speed on the iPhone 4? I had a friend race me to a website with a 3GS, and hers blew mine away. I'm even getting some disconnects when I try to hit a webpage... my friends with 3G's and 3GS's are fine...
UPDATE: So I just came back from the Apple store, where they confirmed what I was told via 611 by ATT. There is an ATT Network "problem" / "congestions" happening right now, and things should resolve in a little bit. For the US East Coast, I was told that from PA to VA, we have yesterday's storm to blame. Hope this helps...
So, this ATT network problem/congestion only affects iphone4?
I have 3gs and 4. I did side by side comparison. To bypass "not holding it right" issue, I placed them on the table. When I tried to open up app store contents, 3gs was very fast. The 5 screen shots showed up already by the time I scrolled down to see them. With 4, it took almost a whole minute or sometimes longer. However, when i used wi-fi, iphone 4 was definitely faster. It was not day and night but I can definitely see the difference. I am not quite happy right now and I hope that this gets resolved soon.
I can confirm that here in Chester county PA. Awful speeds yesterday. So frustrating!!! ATT told me the same thing. Later last night, it kicked in and I've had faster 3G data than I ever had on my old iPhone!!!
Still blazin fast today!! Wahoo!! I was so frustrated yesterday. Anyway, lovin the iPhone 4...NOW
Salt Lake City user here, I've also had incredibly slow 3g data on the new iPhone. It seems to get better in the evenings, but the last couple days (including today) it's been terrible. In fact, 8 out of 10 times I use data it just times out. I did a side by side on the table test with my friends 3GS....mine just timed out, his was almost instant. Lame.
From Salt Lake City as well. I have the same issue. I tried my iPhone 4 against other iPhone 3Gs (many iPhone 3G phones, not 3Gs) and my time outs or it takes forever to load a page. I tried it on a table as well. I tried restoring it to iOS 4.0 and without restoring it to a backup (iPhone had no software on it--like fresh out of the box) and I still experienced the same issue.
*****. If the issue persists I'm going to take it to the Apple Store to see what they have to say.
I believe it's just the network. I have prove that it is. I did a speed test today while in the ATL and all I can say is WOW!! Download was at 4.1m and upload was at 1.3. The fastest I experienced anywhere. I live in Orange County California and thought I had it good. My download speed where i live max would be somewhere along 2.5 or 2.8 for download.
That's great that it worked for you but since the problem is so random I feel like the going away of the issue is temporary and it may be back. I don't always have the issue. I reset my network AND restored my phone but it didn't fix the issue.
Please report back and let us know if your problem is fixed. I'm on 3G now.
Honesty, I think it's the network, not your phones. Call AT&T and
Ask them about the status of the network in your area. When I had that issue, I thought it was my phone, but I found out there were 40 towers out in my area. They must have came online and things are working better than ever with my phone. Hope this is the case for yall
This is not and issue for me in Los Angeles!
I took these pictures while doing the death grip, thats why you see no bars. The surprising thing for me is; this didn't affect my speed test results at all. Definitely a huge improvement on AT&T's side from two years ago when I got my iPhone 3G.
It's a weird network issue because it seems like it only happens to some iPhone 4 users and no iPhone 3G, 3Gs, 2G users. It's not permanent. It comes and goes.
That describes what I'm experiencing. One second its the antenna issue, the next I just have no connectivity at all, then it works great for a few minutes.....then we start all over. My wife's 3GS has continued to work like a champ. I'm in the SLC area.
