iPhoto no longer recognizes photos from my Kodak EasyShare V803

Well, it's July 2011 and this problem still hasn't been fixed. Or maybe it was fixed with one upgrade, but it has reappeared with another. Pictures from my Kodak V530 suddenly stopped showing up in iPhoto after years of trouble-free use. The pictures are still in the camera, but can't be imported. I'm running OS X 10.6.8 and iPhoto '09 8.1.2. I've tried all the suggested fixes and workarounds in this thread including rebuilding the library. No go. To me it really does appear to be a compatibility problem between Kodak and Mac.

If anyone has any new advice or words of wisdom, I'd sure appreciate it. Otherwise I guess I'm off to the camera store to buy something Mac is more friendly with.

This has been very sad for me as well. I have had no problem for years uploading my photos from my Kodak Easyshare V550. I just updated the iPhoto software to '09 9.1.5 thinking this would have the "fix" in it, but it still does not work. It continues to say that JPEG files are unrecognizable when trying to import my photos. I too am running OS X 10.6.8. I believe that when this operating system software updated to the latest one is when the problem started. I have done a lot of troubleshooting on other Mac computers as well as PC's and here is what I discovered:

*trying to import pictures using my Kodak EasyShare on ALL Mac's running OS X 10.6.8 all failed with the same error messages of "unable to recognize JPEG files" (I tried importing on 2 Macs in my house, my son's Mac at his house, and my daughter's mac at her house)

*taking my memory card out of my camera and putting it into my son's Cannon point & shoot (just happened to fit his camera) & importing it on his MAC it all worked beautifully! (that made me know that the files on card were not corrupt)

*took my memory card to Target and had pictures loaded on CD and then tried to import the CD into iPhotos and that worked beautifully!! (iPhoto will be able to load pictures from a CD but it cost money to put them on one!)

*My daughter's MAC laptop has a memory card slot on the side and I put my memory card in that and it uploaded perfectly. (Most Mac's do not have that slot which I think they all should!)

*I also was able to upload my photos from my camera (with memory card in camera) into my daughter's PC and it loaded perfectly! (that showed me nothing was broken regarding my Kodak EasyShare camera)

With all that process of elimination going on I realized that until Apple comes out with a fix for this problem, I either have to go out and get a new camera that is newer like my sons Cannon point & shoot, OR for $13 I could go to WalMart and purchase a memory card reader that plugs into the USB port...then take my memory card out of the camera and put it into the reader and PROBLEM SOLVED--all my pictures uploaded on iPhoto! Now granted, we should not have to do this since for years we never had this problem, but since life isn't fair and until Apple fixes this problem, if we don't want to purchase a new camera, this is the best solution that I have found.

Mike I hope this helps you and keeps you from having to waste anymore time on this. You are absolutely correct, I believe, that it does appear to be a compatibility problem between Kodak and Mac. I hope you didn't buy a camera before you read my message!

What a comprehensive and thorough answer! This is just the kind of response I hoped I could get, but never imagined it would be this soon. Of course, it's not the "dream" answer of "just push this little button and it will be fixed," but with these facts I now know just what I need to do. Thanks again, so much.

I am having same problem with my Canon G3, but not with my Canon IXUS40 which works fine, I have tested the G3 on my friends iMac (hasn't upgraded to latest version of OSX) and all works fine. The problem with the G3 is that iPhoto will not even recogmise the camera? I am using iPhoto 8.1.2 and OSX 10.6.8

I took Paula's advice (see her answer above) and bought an inexpensive card reader from Wal Mart. It's a Kodak 50 in 1 model and works like a charm. I can now just insert the memory card from my camera into the card reader, my Mac recognizes it right away and all the pictures are there ready to be imported into iPhoto.

I am going to borrow a friends card reader today, I'm sure that my card is OK as I can download straight from my camera into my friends iMac using the previous version. I will look to see if that model reader is available here in Oz

To all: I have not yet upgraded to Lion. Does someone who has know whether this bug has been fixed?

The first thing I checked when I upgraded to Lion was to see if this bug has been fixed and the answer is NO!! Can you believe it? I was so disappointed because I really thought Apple would have recognized the problem from all of the discussions on this message board and done something about it. Why do you think they are turning a blind eye to this? I guess we have to continue using our memory card readers until this bug gets fixed.

I was really happy to read that you were able to purchase the reader and have it all work out for you. So many of us are all in the same boat so I guess we'll just have to weather this storm together. I think you will enjoy Lion when you upgrade but I can still remember how shocked 😮 I was when I tried importing my pictures and it still was not fixed...grrrrr!!! 😠

I have a Mac Book Pro at OS 10.6.8 and a iMac at OS 10.6.7. Both run iPhoto 09 8.1.2. My Camera is a Kodak Easyshare Z7590.

The iMac can still upload the pics but the Mac Book says that the file type is unrecognizable. This is the same for every SD Card I have so it has to be something wrong with the Mac Book.

The culprit was 10.6.8..from that upgrade on, my images on my Kodak camera are not recognised, even with Lion and the new lion update. The solution is to go to Walmart and buy the Targus High Speed Card Reader for $8.00. it handles multiple size cards, is very compact, and did I mention only $8?!? Problem solved!
