Group MMS- what is it and how does it work?

I'm rarely one to ask questions about the iphone but I got my iphone 4G and today realized there was a setting that says group mms. I turned it on. I sent a text message to two people, expecting their replies to appear in the same window but they came as seperate relies. Was I wrong in assuming group mms meant replies from multiples would appear in the same window as the sent message? Please explain what Group MMS is and how it works. Thanks!

Your recipients of your message have to have to their group MMS also turned on.

I learned this the hard way when a girl I was dating had her group MMS on, I sent a pic of the sunset and she responded how are you doing sweetie pie, my friends responded back who the **** is this but only to her since I have group MMS off.

I've tested this feature out now on newer Blackberries(ATT & Ver), iphones 3G, 3GS and 4 if they have their group MMS on and you do too on it should work, if you don't have it on and they do. Its hit and miss.

With the new iPhone5, your recipients don't need to have GROUP MMS on for it to work! They don't even need an iPhone - they're already in the chat! Do you know what this means?

This means that if you don't turn off your iPhone5's GROUP MMS setting, and I receive chat responses from you, I'm going to post your ******* phone number all over Amway's 'Opportunity - Potential Customer' blogs. I don't have unlimited texting on my phone, and if you start costing me money because you left the REPLY ALL setting on for your extended chat, there will be **** to pay.
