iphone 4 Camera taking pictures with orange/yellow hues...

Just upgraded from the iPhone 3G to the iPhone 4 ten days ago at Radioshack. I love everything about the new one except the camera. All pictures that I take on the 4 are very grainy - both indoor and outdoor pics. Did I get a faulty piece with a bad camera/sensor?

I know there were some camera issues with certain factories that made the iPhone. My serial number starts with 7P039. No idea if factory '7P' was one of those.

Has anybody exchanged their iPhone for any issues at the Apple store? Do they try to get out of giving away a new phone to replace a faulty one by giving excuses like a future firmware or software update will fix it? How hard is it to convince them that I need a new phone without camera issues?

I also get the blue blob with the pink vignette in images taken in fluorescent lighting most notably in images taken with a light background. Otherwise with darker backgrounds, I get really yellow/warm images. I take a pic of my hand and it looks like I have hepatitis. same image, same light in a 3GS and it's a healthy pink. Images and video in outdoor lighting look great.

This issue really bugged me particularly when I see how much better the pictures taken with the 3GS are. After dealing with an iOS supervisor via AppleCare, he forwarded the following to me in an email from a senior systems engineer.

"You are correct. Certain lighting conditions can create the effect that your customer is reporting. Apple is aware of these reports and is currently investigating. For the time being, please do not service the phone for this condition. Rather, please ask this customer to be patient while Apple investigates."

I'm not optimistic there will beany updates any time soon. I recommend you post your observation on the feedback page and not just in the discussion board. Maybe they'll fix it. Otherwise I suppose I'll only take pictures and videos outdoors, in natural lighting or tolerate the grainy, poor quality pictures in other lighting conditions

Thank you for your response. I got a replacement phone at the Apple store today. I still haven't had a chance to check out the camera on it. If the picture quality does not improve, I guess I will be patient and wait for Apple to figure this one out. My serial number for my new phone now begins with - 88049 in case any one is interested.

I am so disappointed with my experience with the new iphone 4. I am now on my 3rd phone! The first was working beautifully for the first 3 months until I had a camera issue which showed vertical lines under certain lighting. Apple agreed to replace after much speculation as to whether it was a software or hardware issue. However it was replaced with a 'good as new' phone. I didn't realise replacements are not brand new. The 2nd phone also showed the vertical lines.

After much banter with Apple yet again, they agreed to replace the 2nd phone with a brand new phone. So off to the Apple store again - twice in a week. Not happy. I had less than desirable service and encountered nothing but a snarly gen 'Y' genius bar person who openly admitted that there are problems under certain lighting and that he sees this type of issue with the camera all the time. It would be fair to say I was treated with contempt until I asked to see the manager.

So tonight I tested the new phone and guess what? The camera is worse than the previous two and I am now experiencing the green tinge which alot of people have been mentioning. I can only guess I am extremely 'lucky' to have had 3 in a row, or this is a massive issue which has left a very sour taste in a lot of customers mouths.

I will be following up with Apple Care on Monday but figure I am stuck with a lemon for the duration. I have always been a massive Apple and iPhone fan but as from today I will be looking forward to an alternative and hope that some opposition to Apple sees this as a chance to rise to the challenge because I think there would be a lot of people willing to 'jump ship'.

Extremely yellow/orange for me as well. Any photo taken without strong, natural daytime light is unusable.

Every picture I take after dusk I have to post-process (I use the Photogene app). I lower the Saturation by about 50%, then crank up the blue to 100% to kill any remaining yellow. Has saved dozens of photos.

Btw I bought my iPhone only last month and have 4.2 installed, so it's still happening, not solved by 4.1 update as some suggested

Alguns amigos que possuem iPhone 4 constataram que a câmera possui um defeito deixando uma marca verde (embassado) no centro da imagem, testei batendo uma foto de uma parede branco e realmente também tenho esse problema.

Adicionando uma importante análise:

1º) O problema também ocorre nas filmagens;

2º) A mancha somente aparece quando se está sob a luz fluorescente, sob a luz amarela e luz solar o problema não ocorre;

3º) A mancha aumenta conforme se dá zoom na foto/filmagem assim sendo não é problema de hardware e sim de software pois o zoom é digital;

4º) Para algumas pessoas as manchas podem ser "amareladas" ou "alaranjadas", no meu caso "esverdiada".

Some friends who have iPhone 4 found that the camera has a defect leaving a green mark (blurred) in the center of the image, I tried hitting a picture of a white wall and really have this problem too.

Anyone else have this? Do a test, hit a shot with the light background.

Adding an important analysis:

1) The problem also occurs in the filming;

2) The spot appears only when it is under fluorescent light, yellow light in the sunlight and the problem does not occur;

3) The spot enlarges as one zooms in photo / film therefore is not hardware problem but software as the zoom is digital;

4) For some stains can be "yellow"or "orange", in my case "greenish. "

After much research i found it is a faulty camera and needs to be replaced. That's the only fix. I have an iPhone 3 and iPhone 4, and simultaneous shots, using the same level of iOS software, result in perfect coloration on the 3GS and bright yellow on the 4.

Has iOS 4.3 addressed the camera green central blob under fluorescent lighting issue? Or is it a lost cause?...

Guys I think the flash is covered by the protective film. Peel it off and everything will be normal

Disappointingly there is no improvement in the iPhone 4 camera software with the 4.3 update. Pictures and videos taken in light backgrounds under fluorescent lighting still have the vignetting -- still more noticeable with rear camera but can be seen with front camera. Images taken under indoor lighting are still oversaturated in the yellows. outdoor pix and videos color balance well. still pix overall still disappointed quality (on the grainy end).

Pix on my wife's 3GS under same conditions are still perfectly white balanced and not oversaturated.

still quite the disappointment but I'm stuck in contract for another year and a half so I'll just have to suck it up. I shouldn't have to buy apps to fix this. they should've enhanced the user interface to allow you to change white balance like my old HTC phones (Windows) did.
