iPhone 4 wont stay connect to Wifi

I have 2 iphone 4 both have the same problem. they wont reconnect to the wifi router even thought the icon on the phone shows that it is connected.

I check the router info, it shows that about 1 min of wifi inactivity, the iphone drops connection and wont reconnect. I have to turn the wifi off then on to get connected again. looks like the same issue Jobs had on the keynote stage.

If your network is secured, ensure these three things, as I've heard that they can cause issues with iPhones...

1) Make sure your SSID is set to broadcast. This is default, so unless you changed it, it's this way. Pretty much, if you can scan with your iP and see your network, then it's fine.
2) *If it's secured, make sure it's using WPA security, and not WEP.*
3) Check to see what signal it's broadcasting on. Haven't done much research on this, but I think if it's on G, it seems to do better than N (even though the OPPOSITE should be true).

Dear Mr. EBSkater,

I was having a problem connecting to my home router. After I tried everything I could think of to no avail I called Apple support. They offered no truely effective advice. Then I read your post I quoted here. The suggestion you offered that worked for me was changing my router security from WEP to WPA.

Many, many thanks from me. Had you not taking the time to offer help with your reply I would still be tearing my hair out in vain trying to solve this issue.

Once again, much thanks!

Same issues here - Belkin N+ Wi-Fi router.

2 x iPhone 3G's in the house connect OK and stay connected - all other Wi-Fi kit is also OK.

New iPhone 4 - disconnects every minute or two although signal strength shows full signal. Have to turn off/on wi-fi on iPhone to get it working again.

I have an Apple bumper on the phone too.

Router has latest firmware and has been recently reset a couple of times.

security is WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK.

I have the same issue with no avail. I have turned off my bluetooth. I have SSID set to broadcast and everything that was said. Router is up to date and reset. This even happens with a university WIFI which I obviously can't reset. I can understand if the wifi isn't on when the iphone is asleep (sorta), but I don't want to have to connect to wifi every time I'm using the phone.

I have a 3GS with iOS 4 and I have never had this problem until...Monday. Statistics say that it's gotta the OS. Anyone offer any help?

Many other iPhone users have had similar issues. The problem may be because
you have an incompatible router, or wireless transmitter. If you have a LINXUS(R) router, this is very common. All new Apple devices such as, iPad and iPhone 4 work best when connected to an Apple Airport Extreme and an Apple Airport Express. These can be purchased from $99.99USD OR $129.99USD at http://www.store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shopmac/mac_accessories/airportwireless?mco=OTY2ODQ4OQ

Please let me know if this worked out.

I have tried all these step and others, only to get it working for a short period of time. Then it goes back to disconnecting, unable to connect to network etc. Sometimes it is connected, then it disconnects after a minute, and when I try to reconnect it asks for the password again, which is strange. Anyway, I've reset my router, reset the phone, forgot the network and tried again, turned on/off blutooth, even turned off the cell antenna and 3G, left it on the table or held it, broadcast network, WPA, etc... most of these things made it work for a short time, but the issues always comes back. 😟

how can you switch your security from WEP to WPA?
i have verizon fios and WEP is "the only choice" as verizon defaults to WEP and each router has its own code right on the box
thanks

Type: 192.168.1.1 into your browsers address field

If you haven't changed the settings:

User name: admin
Password: password1

Now go to "wireless settings"

Go to:
4.Click on the button next to WEP
click OFF

Now go to "advanced security settings"

Click on "WPA"

You'll now be at the WPA screen

Create a "password" in the pre-shared key box

Click apply.

Now try connecting your iPhone to that router, remembering the password you created.

If you have other devices already connected to the wireless router you'll need to change their network settings now as well.
