iPad typing on it's own and moving between pages

My iPad is typing on it's own! It's "glitchy" in that it moved from one screen to the next without me touching it...like it's possessed! It moved itself to the search screen and started tying random letters, I actually see the letters on the keyboard being punched in I'm freaking out...this seems to be the mother glove...help!,, thanks

pS doesn't do it all the time, just when it wants to. Also I've cut off and on, and tried to sync with itunes

I have the same problem, and I found out what's wrong, it's not the software - restart, restore and FW upgrade will not help, if's defiantly hardware.
The best option is to replace your iPad assuming you have an apple store nearby… which I don't 😟 however I found what's causing it and how to bypass the issue almost completely 🙂
It's caused by the case pressing on the borders of the iPad, if you plan to continue using your case make sure it applies no pressure on the iPad - stretch it a little.
Then, take your iPad out of the case (the random / ghost typing will continue..) hold it on both sides, and press hard like your trying to "fold" it towards the apple icon in the back, once you do that you'll that the iPad works normally, and will keep working ok for a long time, if the random typing returns, just do the "folding" action again.
When pressing, apply strength but don't overdo it, you don't really want to fold your iPad (or break it), hope this helps…

Hi

I am pretty sure the problem is to do with upgrading an older version of the software and therefore typically manifests itself when you select the upgrade option from the ipad over wifi.

It seems you have to completely wipe the ipad clean then install the latest version of the software. I guess its a bit like upgrading an existing windows operating system in that regard where the user can encounter problems with upgrade methods. A clean install seems to fix it.

Let us know how you get on.

Cheers

If I understand you correctly you are saying you cannot erase all content and settings because it is moving around too much. To stop it moving temporarily, click the power button quickly. the screen should go blank. press the home button. slide the bar to reveal the desk top. you may only have a short time before it starts moving so quickly go to settings/general/restore and erase all content and settings.

failing that, assuming you are out of warranty (check that first), put the ipad in a cushioned protective case and at your own risk, give it a firm hard slap on the back (not the front as you may break the glass) in my experience this had a similar effect to the above.

Mine has now been fault free and a delight to use for the past 2 weeks and I'd even given up on it at one point so stick with it.

Same here. My ipad 2 has a mind of its own. driving me nuts. basically in all the apps, news apps, facebook, twitter, youtube, safari, you name it. Have just upgraded to iOS6 hoping that would solve it. But it did nt. well, i don;t have the issue with the youtube app ;-). Issue is still there in safari, new apps, facebook, twitter etc. It also randomly siwtches between apps.

I read a few comments and would also say it's hardware issue so i'll take it to the store...

My iPad was doing the same thing - typing random letters, opening random apps, etc. Mostly it would type the same characters (CCCC;;;;;X:CCC:;;;CS). I did a restart, reboot, and even restore to factory settings. None of that worked.

I have a hard plastic case with a rubber covering. I took off the rubber covering only (leaving the hard plastic part on) to look at it and it acted fine. Then, I put the rubber covering back on and it acted weird again. Now I just have the hard plastic covering on.

So, my theory is that it has something to do with the case. Maybe it is pressing hard against the typing part of the screen, or rubbing against the screen somehow? Whatever it is, it worked.

My new iPad4 with retina display is now experiencing the same 'magic'. It keeps self operating, if turned on/cover opened. Just like some ghost is overriding my control.

I've tried to restart, reset, even remove all media and settings to the point of starting using a new iPad. It just won't go away. Haven't tried any exorcism yet, though, :p

Does Apple acknowledged such 'error'? Mine is still under warranty, but the problem is, it's bought overseas. It's not officially available yet in my country. So I'm not sure whether local reseller would take this matter into their concerns.

Care to comment, Apple? :(

Im from Honduras, I've been having the exact same issue with my iPad Mini for a few weeks, No Apple store of course, just a reseller. So i took it there today, My iPad starting freaking out right in front of them so I didn't had to record a video or anything, and yes, they agreed its a hardware problem. Thankfully my iPad its still inside the 1 year warranty so they'll send it to an apple store in USA and I'll have a new one in about 2 weeks or so.

So yeah...im sorry to say that this problem is not fixable. Go to your nearest Apple Store or re-seller to get a new one.

I had the same problem with my iPad mini. Turned off the Bluetooth and that seems to have solved the problem. I think it was picking up signals from either another device with Bluetooth in the house or one of my neighbors. Hope that was the problem. None of my other devices iPhone 5, iPod touch, iPad, or iPod 4s have the issue happen when the bluetooth is turned on. Just that iPad mini. Anyone know why that is the case?

TRY TAKING OFF YOUR CASE.

My Mini started doing this typing weirdness today. Tried Reset and that made it worse. It's Christmas morning and no Apple store open so I'm in trouble for today at least. Found a posting about a tight case can sometimes cause this. I took off the Moshi case that I have used for months and SHAZAAM! No more typing craziness! How strange is that? Put the case back on and it's fine. I carry the mini in my purse and figure it must have gotten bumped in a weird way.

So that makes me wonder how many iPads has Apple replaced when all they needed to do was take the case off?
