iPad typing on it's own and moving between pages

My iPad is typing on it's own! It's "glitchy" in that it moved from one screen to the next without me touching it...like it's possessed! It moved itself to the search screen and started tying random letters, I actually see the letters on the keyboard being punched in I'm freaking out...this seems to be the mother glove...help!,, thanks

pS doesn't do it all the time, just when it wants to. Also I've cut off and on, and tried to sync with itunes

I have the same problem, and I found out what's wrong, it's not the software - restart, restore and FW upgrade will not help, if's defiantly hardware.
The best option is to replace your iPad assuming you have an apple store nearby… which I don't 😟 however I found what's causing it and how to bypass the issue almost completely 🙂
It's caused by the case pressing on the borders of the iPad, if you plan to continue using your case make sure it applies no pressure on the iPad - stretch it a little.
Then, take your iPad out of the case (the random / ghost typing will continue..) hold it on both sides, and press hard like your trying to "fold" it towards the apple icon in the back, once you do that you'll that the iPad works normally, and will keep working ok for a long time, if the random typing returns, just do the "folding" action again.
When pressing, apply strength but don't overdo it, you don't really want to fold your iPad (or break it), hope this helps…

I bought my iPad in December 2010 and it was a couple months ago when it started acting "possessed". 👿 Just as yours was, it was going to random websites and launching apps, some of which I don't even have. It was so annoying and strange to see my iPad basically with a mind of its own. And, I had no control over it. 😮

Yesterday I made an appt. for an Apple Store about 25 minutes from here. Thankfully, my iPad was able to demonstrate to the guy what it had been doing with me, although not quite to the extreme I had experienced. But, it was enough to prove to him that there was, indeed, an issue with it. At first he had intended to do a Restore on premises and have me wait. But after talking to a Genius who knew more about the product and issue, he came back and told me they were just going to swap it out. I had already backed it up at home. So after erasing all my data, he had me open the new one and told me how to do a Backup Restore on my computer. He also said if it ended up with the same issues, to then do a Full Restore ( a software issue). BUT, it seems to be working fine just after the Backup Restore. So, it definitely was a hardware problem. From the sound of it here, I wasn't the only one. I plan to upgrade to the iPad 2 or maybe wait for the 3 when it comes out. I'll then give this one to my 19 year old daughter. But, in the meantime, I'm happy that they replaced it, no questions asked. I was very impressed with Apple's customer service.😎

having the same issue here. I had the same issue on a previous ipad 2. I swapped it out (because of another issue).

Sometimes my ipad 2 does these random things and sometimes mine is just not responsive.

Someone suggested the screen protector could be the culprit,. But mine does it with or without the screen protector. I have a Moshi screen protector and a iFrogz Summit case.

Earlier in this threat someone suggested flexing your ipad backwards. I wouldn't suggest this though. Thing is really thin and i would think easy to damage. The screen issue would be covered under warranty, the damage from flexing it, would not.

We had this problem as well. We recorded the screen with my cell phone the various itunes account logon attempts, the random typing, safari, youtube launches and showed it to the tech. It had even randomly took pictures of my office etc. Apple swapped it out and gave me a new one. The whole thing was unsettling almost as if someone was hacking my ipad. I have been hacked before so I wasn't to happy. The new one is fine (so far).

I took my iPad (original, no iPad2) to an Apple store about 30 minutes from here and they also swapped it out for another one. They said it wasn't worth trying to fix. I'm so glad it did it's "crazy thing" in front of the representative! 🙂 I'm waiting to buy the iPad3. I hope that doesn't happen with that, as well. Mine was still under warranty, but what if it a new one starts doing this stuff and it's just past warranty?

I am in Argentina, here we do not have an Apple store so I took my iPad2 to a reseller.

They noticed the problem and they told me that they will change it under warranty.

Everything fine so far but...

they gave me just a paper where it says that I have claimed the exchange and I must wait upto 2 months until they receive a new equiment.

At least they allow me to bring home my device (the one that it does not work well).

I hope they make the change soon!

I'm from Malaysia. My iPad1 having the same problem as describe on first post- typing on its own and open and close app, zooming in and out without me touching the screen. So I brought it to Machine service center at Mid-V. They told me my iPad1 is out of warranty. If I need to exchange for a same spec. iPad1, I need to pay RM1056.00. Then I was thinking ***, iPad2 now cost RM1200.00.

Would like to know any place can fix this. Or how to make them exchange for me without me paying so much? This is a hidden hardware problem, and may and may not happen to every iPad. They should know better.

I had this problem with my ipad2. Typing on its own, changing page size, moving about in applications etc, I spent days working on a fix and have finally solved it.

I hope this benefits others;

1) Download latest itunes to a computer.

2) Connect ipad 2 to the computer using white usb cable.

3) Transfer all purchases etc.

4) Disconnect from itunes.

5) go to settings on the ipad and choose the General option, scroll to bottom and select Reset.

6) choose erase all content and settings.

7) reconnect the ipad to the computer. wait for itunes to find the ipad.

8) on the ipad select set up as new ipad etc until it shows the icons.

9) on itunes select restore ipad.

10) leave itunes to download the latest software. it might take 30mins. dont touch it.

11) when the download is complete it will restore the ipad with latest software.

12) go to settings and switch off Bluetooth. turn off Multitasking gestures. select keyboard and turn off split keyboard. turn off the following too; auto correction, auto capitilisation, check spelling and shortcut.

that's it, ipad should now be problem free.

post here if this helps you.

Following comments elsewhere let me clarify item 12 in my post above;

if you then wish to re-activate each of those features one by one you can do so. Should you find one of those then reintroduces the issue you can switch it back off.

I am not saying those features cause the issue but in my case they add no value to me so I switched them off to be on the safe side.
