No UK Returns for faulty iPhone 4

Apart from hopefully Tesco

Hi Guys. I am still hoping for a solution from Apple. Just an update, to try and help you guys in the UK. Tesco Mobile promised me a full refund if I return it within 14 days. However, when I went into the town centre today at County Durham, I popped in a few shops to query returns. Orange Flat out said it's got nothing to do with them and no returns are not available, have to talk with Apple. 02 said buy a bumper and also dont touch the phone with your hands at the bottom, but refused to offer any refund. When I demonstrated the fault in front of their staff she said well don't hold it there, and offered me a bumper from behind the counter. I asked why should i buy a bumper to make something work that should already work. She basically just fobbed me off, and said goodbye. Vodafone said no returns until it is guaranteed to be a faulty product. Carphone warehouse and Phones U said exactly the same. There is no returns policy. Hopefully with Tesco being a Supermarket their returns procedure is a little less Fixed by Apple..I asked each store straight could i return an iPhone that does not work as a phone and they ALL said NO

If there is no fix for all issues; or acknowledgement of the issue from Apple; I'm happy to cancel my order from arriving and get something like a HTC that will work.
I've never had a HTC phone before; I hear you can hold them any way you like and they wont drop calls or hand up on people with your face or shatter if you drop them on carpet; and I'd save myself near £500...

It's a pity, because I love the iPhone; but Apple seems to have dropped the call, I mean ball, with this one.
I'd have at least expected a major public announcement saying "Sorry guys, some issues and we are fixing them all and you will see the fixes in X days. Sorry we didn't test it enough"

I agree that's nice of them. I think network operators (I know Tesco do but they just piggy back) are more $£$£ oriented than customer service oriented (And Apple by the looks of things over the past 7 days)

I bought my iPhone 4 from the apple store in Lakeside after waiting a good 6 hours in the queue! The antenna problem is a very big problem to avoid (having spent £500) so on Monday went to the apple store and they happily gave me a full refund no qquestions asked! also 2 years back when the iPhone 3G came out I took out a contract with o2 and after using it for a few days I got one for free so didnt need this one so popped back to the o2 store and said I changed my mind, they cancelled the contract and only had to pay the weeks line rental I used. ALL NETWORKS HAVE A 14 DAY MONEY BACK GUARANTEE, IF YOU UPGRADED THEN ITS DIFFERENT

Not all actually; it's not law as far as I can tell. They may have to refund the phone cost; but the contract is binding unless they say so.

Nice; Might not cancel mine then; just return it if I don't like it at all.

lollzz just use it for a few days and then return it

I might do so!
I will call apple the day I get it and ask them how to return it and how long I have.

If it even flickers once while i'm on a call, I'll get a replacement, and another, and another and another until I am satisfied with my purchase or Apple are forced to admit there is a problem with the device so they cannot replace it any further.

Either way I either:
a) get a working device
or
b) Apple admit to me there is a problem

I'd be happy in either case

Sorry to hear all the grief everyone here is getting. As Apple seem content to ignore their customers individually, maybe the combined force of the retailers getting sick of their sales staff being tied up with returns and arguments in the store may also put some pressure on Apple to actually make an announcement on the problem and what they are planning to do about it?

exactly my point, apple are just keeping quiet about it. i read somewhere their staff have been advised not to give out free bumpers lollzzz its an overpriced rubber band anyways but everyone who are having problems should return it and see what they do about it. having owned the previous 3 models i know there are always bugs but problems with the antenna is too big of an issue to let go. so while everyone still has their 14 day money back guarantee return your products and force apple to redesign their new antenna system which doesnt work!! knowing apple it wont be fixed till next model comes out in july where they will say we have re-invented the iphone 4, its now called the iphone 4GS and the reception is fixeddd

I have no issue with the iPhone 4, unless I hold the phone in a really weird position which also affect the 3Gs, but the Desire drops signal constantly when 3G is enabled due to switching and although a firmware is available I have to wait until T-Mobile get round to pushing the update. The HD2 had issues with the proximity sensor, the HTC Dual had the problem reported with the current iPhone. In short, if you think HTC are any better, then I'd really think again and I've used HTC devices for seven years. After a year they're obsolete and with little official support.

Ok. Took it back yesterday to Tesco, who refunded £299 for the phone. My £35 I also paid up front for first month will also be refunded. However, they checked my usage and it come to £33 for 3 or 4 calls, a few texts, and some Internet usage (about 2 and a half hours). They said I will be billed for that. I explained to them that this was extortionet and I was only fiddling about with trying out the Internet but it was real slow and was not even on 3G just edge or something. I think they charge you a £1 per Meg or something. But surely I could not have used that much. The phone was in a draw for all but the first day. I would not care I could not get Internet to work as I had no service. Anyway, after arguing about this with their call centre using the in store phone they finally agreed as good will not to charge me anything because of shoddy connection etc and no service. The manager in store said I was lucky as other customers had ran up bills of over a hundred quid and others even more that forced them to keep phone and initial contract rather than paying a few hundred quid for a few weeks usage. A luck escape I have had. I think this will prevent others returning their iPhones when they see their bill on terminating their contract. Nevertheless I'm out now. 335 quid better off and not a stinking huge contract to look forward to with a crap service. I loved the iPhone and am disappointed on how this has turned out and many more will have been stressed out like me. I will continue using apple products that have a proven track record. I love my Mac i5 27 inch my iPod and my wife and daughters iPhone 3GS but fir me the iPhone 4 was my worst experience yet from apple.
