So I wanted to restore my iPhone 4 cause it wouldnt sync my apps and now every time I connect my phone to the itunes it keeps giving me the error 1004 during the restore."The iphone "Iphone" could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1004)." 😟 does anyone know what should I do?
I think Adobe will come get you soon for having a pirated CS 🙂.
Try copying the HOSTS file to your desktop (backup), delete the original file, and then try to restore. After you're done, copy the HOSTS file back. Don't run any Adobe while your HOSTS file is removed or they may get inactivated.
Thanks so much. A quick google search took me right to this thread and your solution worked perfectly. I now recall last Fall modifying the host file but totally forgot about it. Your info put an end to the madness 😉 Thanks again, particularly for the detailed explanation portion.
After modifying your hosts file, you may need to run iTunes as administrator in order to complete the restore. Especially if you run the 64bit edition.
The hosts file is user-protected to administrator.
I have had several problems and error codes resolved by running iTunes as administrator.
Thank you so much for the detailed directions on how to handle this problem. I could not get my new iPhone 4 set up because I kept getting this message. I followed your steps exactly and it's syncing as I type this message.
Thank you for this posting. I realized I may have changed this at some point a while back before I even got the iPhone 4. Your directions solved the problem.
Just as an FYI, in case anyone else is searching for this and fixing your HOSTS file on your Mac doesn't work, you (or someone who used your computer) may have used the 'dscl' command.
This command seems to create entries in a different database which seem to supercede your HOSTS file.
been on this error code 1004 for 3 days now and I'm on a long business trip in a middle east country that's not so internet savvy....had several sleepless nights...can anyone explin in simple terms waht I can do? Checked my host file and there's no line gs.apple.....
Thanks KIAN.. i never log in but had to thank you for that. I just bought my iphone 4 today and could not for the life of me remember why its ****** up before I got to play with it!!
wow this actually worked thanks a bunch saved me a lot of frustration...
on windows though there are 2 lines with the "gs.apple.com" both of them have to be deleted...
it wouldve been a tad been easier if you would have mentioned that.. but its cool i figured it out thanks again
