Q: FIX FOR: iPhone 4 battery draining fast, phone running hot

FOLKS for anyone here who wants a TREATMENT...not a cure for 4S phone drainage.. First tip..not a 6.1.3 problem! Second not a battery problem..

TRY this it helped me..and I can tell it does because I have SYS ACTIVITY Manager plus. That shows programs running and all systems running!   It was one of their hints...though they don't say why.

FOLKS ...there is a way you can stop 'running' programs from draining your batteries.

Remember that area below home screen that shows 'last 4 run programs?

You get there by double clicking home button. If you press on an icon, they wiggle

and a little RED - circle comes up. Press the RED - and ICON /program is turned off.

..TURN THEM ALL OFF! It wont affect your reuse of any app direct from home screen.

Even my SYS ACTIVITY montor said I had App Store and fb running when I hadn't used them

in hours. By turning them off with this HOME Button they are now OFF OFF and in fact were

removed from my 'running applications' list on SYS ACTIVITY.( I tested by turning CAMERA on

then off.) Sure enough it showed up in 'running applications'.. and popped up in the bottom list.

Pushing its RED button..removed it from running apps list!

Now I know we shouldn't have to do this ..but no matter. It does work. Keep that screen cleared!

I did that and have had NO BATT drain for over an hour!.

If you Iphone is running hot and drains fast it can be either battery or charge controller problem. The second is more possible. If any advices on this forum didn't help you better go and have your phone checked by technician. My own problem with iphone 4s was simply solved by changing charge controller which was dying. Now it works fine and doesn't drain fast.

For me one good thing was remembering to turn off unused app via double click at bottom of HomeScreen..

Press on icon Red _ ciricle to upper left..use to close all apps you aren't using. DO IT EVERYTIME YOU USE PHONE!

I also do like having SYS ACTIVITY Manager with Free Memory clear function and use it 2-3 times a day.

But BEST BEST was to find that hidden MAIL iCloud Mail Fetch!!! and turn it to MANUAL

Find it by going to Settings > Mail, Contacts,Calendars >FETCH NEW DATA> (turn off) Turn PUSH off ..

and then scroll down off screen to ADVANCED>iCloud and select MANUAL...

With this your phone wont look for mail until you open mail app!

So far Since 10 PM last night at 98% I was 96% at 8 this AM and now at 1:30 PM at 85%.. I have used phone a bit, but not much.

Just keep tweeting out that you are telling everyone you know NOT TO BUY ANY APPLE MOBILE product until they get 6.1.3 fixed!

6.1.3 IS fixed. Works great on my phone, battery life is no worse than any other version and better than some. If it isn't working on your phone it is a problem with your phone or your usage pattern, not with version 6.1.3.

A few days ago I found my phone turned off with empti battery. It was charged wery well (all night) but some how drain battery just fo 8 or 10hours (usually I need to charge my phone every 2 or 3 days).

Usind iDemonstrate I noticed about CPU usage 12-20% premanently ang I found a GPSRecorder process running (but I manually stops this program).

After I delete GPSRecorder from my phone the CPU usage shows 0-5% and all going OK.

Note: I also found a problem with EVERNOTE,where I have a sick SYNC and I cannot correct it yet. So it keeps trying to SYNC and can't. Got answer back from them yesterday ...will try their correction and let you all know.

My solution: Reseat the camera…no problem ever since!

My iPhone 4 suddenly started overheating and draining the battery like no tomorrow. I had downloaded two updates and after reading this forum I thought that this was the issue.

I tried pretty much all of the solutions people came up with in this forum but nothing worked. After two weeks of limited use and only very basic stuff on the phone, it died. Not a peep…even when I plugged in the charger…nothing.

Whether I was using the camera or not I noticed that the heat always started just below the camera and next to the battery, I also noticed that the camera wasn’t focusing. I took the phone to a repairer for a diagnosis and mentioned the camera, they reseated the camera and now the phone is fine.

I wont say that this is the ultimate solution but it worked for me. After reading this forum from the very beginning, it appears that everones symptoms are the same but the solutions are very different.

Wow...it is definitely a corrupted calendar invite...this is my 5th iPhone 4( free replacement everythime) and there was no rhyme or reason to the unexpected quick drain....everytime I restored the new phone and I would go weeks or months until this would happen again!!  Just happened yesterday, deleted my work email an Now, 24 hours later, no issues at all!!!  Thx for the help

I am facing a strange issue with my iPhone 4. It's almost 2 years old and I am experiencing battery drainage while using it. I mean on standby it lasts more than 2 days. But on usage, the battery drops 1% every 2-3 mins. Even while texting or using Facebook. I update the iOS 6.1.3. I wonder if this is the reason. However i remember it has same behavior even before update. Here's my usage stats and my battery is at 21%

Usage: 5 hours 20 mins

Standby: 2 days 20 hours

Is this normal for battery to drain with such rate while using. PLS note while using it drains 1% every 2-3 mins.

If you are using WiFi or have a cellular signal that is 5 bars that discharge rate is a little high. However, if you are using cellular data and the signal strength is not good (1-3 bars) then it's reasonable. Weak cellular signal means that the phone must use much more power to maintain a connection (50 mw at 5 bars, 600 mw at 1 bar).

As another alternative, your battery gauge could need to be calibrated. Run the battery down until the phone shuts off and won't restart, then charge for 4 hours with the wall charger, without using the phone during the charge cycle.

Thank you for the reply and help. I will do this today. However, one more question. What you mean by "until the phone shuts off and won't restart". What i know is that when it shuts off due to low battery, after plugging in to wall socket charger, it turn on again automatically after getting adequate charge in battery. Did u mean this to be done ?

Sometimes when it shuts off with low battery if you wait a few minutes and press a button it comes back on (before plugging it in to the charger). When it no longer comes on is when you should plug it in.

Thanks for the help. Well I did it. However, my battery still drains about 1% every 3-4 mins on usage.  And if you are using 3G, the rate is much faster. I did texting today through 3G and my battery went down from 98% to 88% within 10-12 mins... Is this normal.

Also, does these drainage issues is related to the number of running processes in iOS 6.1.3 ??

In iOS 4.3.1, maximum 30 processes run in background whereas in iOS 6.1.3 more than 50 processes run...

Is this would be the cause?
