Text Message Send Sound...
Mac OS X (10.6.4)
Mac OS X (10.6.4)
It is now December 2013. iOS 7. Still no way to turn off the send message sound. Gr.
My iPhone 5 does not make any sounds when I send texts? My iPhone 4 quit doing it as well.
It is as if Apple actually does read these forums.
The one thing I couldnt stand about my phone was fixed as far as I can tell.
That sounds awesome, but it is not my experience.
Just got an iPhone 4S. System 7.0.3. Makes a send message noise.
Spoke to Apple Support by phone, since I'm still in the 90 days, and they said the sound can't be turned off, and if I don't like it I should mute my phone (which I won't) and report it on the Feedback page (which I did). But since it has apparently been reported by others for the past three years, I'm not optimistic.
Jake V, if you can shed any light on why or when your phones stopped making the noise (stopped when you updated iOS?), it would be much appreciated.
(P.S. I'm not really a time traveller. It's still October.)
If you want a sound on incoming messages you get the sound on outgoing messages. Go to Settings-> Sounds-> Text Tone -> and select "None". I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 7.0.3 but this was fixed for me after the iOS 6 upgrade a while ago.
I have the following disabled in settings --> sounds:
Sent Mail, Text Tone as well as some others.
I think one of those will do it. I am using IOS 7.0.3
Okay, ThatButtersGuy has it right. Turned off Text Tones in:
Settings -> Sounds -> Text Tone -> Alert Tones -> None
This does also disable incoming text sounds, which I don't really want, but it's much better than nothing. Interesting that Apple Support did not suggest that.
Apple, if you're listening, please make separate sound controls for incoming and outgoing text messages!
Thanks Jake V and ThatButtersGuy!
Great response.
This "feature" was bugging the heck out of me.
I have hearing aids, Phonak, and a streamer, a ComPilot. So every time I had an incoming message I heard a tone, then voice message "bluetooth audio", and the ComPilot changed the programs on my hearing aids. 30 seconds later it would time out.
If I was trying to understand conversation face to face or on the phone, I couldn't.
This response was essential to me restoring the benefit of wearing my Phonak hearing aids.

(The ComPilot takes bluetooth audio from the phone, streams it, and I hear it in my two hearing aids. The ComPilot also has a remote microphone that is my voice piece for phone calls.)
i didn't read all of these, so this fix may already be in here, but just plug your head phones into phone and then basically the entire phone is now silent. Some jobs like mine require absolute silence, so I sympathize with the fact that the woosh sound on the 3g was not tolerable.
Absolutely agree. Thanks for the (unfortunate and frustrating) info.
There is a fix. Set text sound to none in settings. Then manage the text sound for each contact. Takes a few minutes but each person can have a unique incoming sound and the annoying sent sound is gone.
There doesn't seem to be anything but a drastic solution to this problem. Man that sound *** I want it gone. Seriously everything on the iphone seems to be a workaround of some kind.
