I have an Airport Extreme Base Station(N) with the latest firmware and my ne iPhone 4. Whenever I try and watch a youtube video on my iphone is is super slow, *** is wrong? I cannot tell for sure if the iPhone is on the 802.11n but I assume it does autmatically. How do I fix this?
Thank you @defiance for the link. This is exactly what happens to us. The YouTube video works fine on our iPod Touch and iPhone 3GS, but is sometimes very slow on iPhone 4. iPhone 4 automatically selects the HD version of the video, which is sometimes very slow from the YouTube server (slow on PC too).
Note: You can still use Safari to visit YouTube and watch video from there. It will play fine with the default standard resolution video.
Is there a way to set the default resolution for the YouTube app? (if not, hopefully in 4.1?)
Me: same problem: iPod touch is perfect, iPhone 4 is bad, both running on the same time capsule network. Turning off the guest network on my time capsule fixes the iPhone 4 problem. Very irritating. What gives?
Try pressing the home button twice and fully quitting any apps you aren't actually using (touch and hold one of the icons until a "no-entry" symbol appears, then touch that symbol to fully quit any apps you don't need to run). When you've quit all the apps you can/want to, press the home button again then re-try youtube.
I found something that is making youtube slow... it's the multitasking. this part of the iphone is slowing it down. Hit the home button twice, hold one of the apps in the multitasking screen, and delete all apps that are multitasking. This helped a littile on mine
