iPhone 4/iOS 4 bluetooth muffled on other end

I don't know if it's the phone or the OS, but my headset worked fine with my iPhone 2g. On my new iPhone 4, every bluetooth headset I use connects fine and I can hear the caller perfect. Except, they say it sounds like there's a pillow over my mouth when I talk. To the point of not even recognizing what I say. I tried calling the house, and I can barely hear myself, and it will cut in and out. Anyone else getting this issue?

I have a feeling why your asking how many hours/minutes. The Q2 seemed to work flawlessly for the first week or so, but now I'm noticing an increasing degradation of performance (even though I'm apparently a super secret undercover agent for Blueant). I noticed yesterday how choppy the sound was when the phone was in my pocket. Now, even with the phone right next to me on a table, I'm intermittently dropping the connection. A hard reset seems, so far, to have remedied this.

I wish is was that easy. I'm on my 3rd iP4 and my wife has one also. My super secret agent friend 🙂 Jim is spot on with his observations. My phones worked great for about a week then the BT degrades. I'm a frustrated, as we all are and tired of buying and returning BT headsets for an Apple issue, and I'm sure, myself included, have help Q2 with some sells with this thread getting thousands of hits but I don't think it's the silver bullet. And again, just my 2 cents. If it's working for you then that's cool, I'll even keep my fingers crossed for you and hope it holds out until Apple fixes this. It tough for all of us who use our phones for business. Peace and love, peace and love - my Howard Stern reference for the day.

I don't know what's with you people upgrading from 3G/3GS to 4, claiming that you didn't have this issue on your old 3G/3GS iPhone, but I've been living with this issue since 2008 with my 3G and my brother also has on his 3GS. We have both tried different headsets to no avail.

It's definitely a noise cancelation issue, but I certainly hope that Apple doesn't focus on iPhone 4 and dual mics (btw using the second mic to do noise-cancelation when talking through bt is dump), but revamp the whole bluetooth stack right this time.

@Thanar, it's possible that people didn't have this problem on their 3G/3GS phones prior to updating to 4 b/c that's the deal with me and others I know. What people should keep in mind is that just b/c one person does/doesn't have a problem, that doesn't mean the same will/won't apply to the next person. So to put it nicely, there' "nothing up" with "we" people other than simply stating the facts.

I believe the problem is with the OS4. I have never had any issues with my Motorola 790 Bluetooth headset when I had iPhone 3G. Since I have upgraded to iPhone 4 and gave my 3G to my wife and after upgrading both phones to the new OS4 we both have been having issues discussed in this post. I have exchanged 2 iPhone 4s, restored it as a brand new phone, purchased the new Motorola H17 and the issues did not go away. During my last conversation with an apple tech support, the lady suggested that I don't put my phone into my pocket when I use Bluetooth. LOL Can you all believe this??? Is Apple trying to reinvent the concept of "hands free device"??? Still no word from Apple after pages and pages of customer feedback. Their tech support and the Genius Bar employees make it look like this problem does not exist. Hello!!!!! Apple!!!! Are you reading this????!!!! Give us some feedback. Let us know when you're going to fix this problem! Take some responsibility!!!!

No, it's not. I've been running 4.1 beta 3 since it's been out, and I still have the problem.

@jboehle - Which of the problems in this thread are you still having? Muffled audio and/or the cut outs and loss of connection?

iPhone 4 or other? Which headset again?

I can no longer reproduce it on my two headsets.
