iPhone 4/iOS 4 bluetooth muffled on other end

You add me to the list as well. I'm using a Plantronics 925 and I bought a brand new Plantronics 975 just to confirm and it too had the exact same muffled audio problems people are reporting. This gets so that people can't understand a word I'm saying. Hoping for a fix.

Oh no - the only thing worse than having this problem will be Apple proclaiming that they've fixed it, only to find that it's not fixed and having to start all over again with hounding them to fix it.

I still have the muffled audio problem. I never had the cut outs/loss of connection issue.

This is on an iPhone 4, using a Plantronics Voyager Pro.

That's a disappointing news, because I never had a BT connection problem, and it has always been muffled voice issue for me.

There's a fairly large group of us testing iOS 4.1 beta 3 with a variety of headsets. At least on the iPhone 4, if you do a full restore with beta 3 and completely delete (forget) and re-pair with the BT headset, the garbled audio problem seems to be licked. I can't reproduce it anymore on either of my two test phones.

It should only take a dozen of minutes talking to someone who's in a noisy environment for the muffled-headset-mic-issue to make its appearance. Don't be to hasty on your judgment, give it time...

Same here. The connection has been great, tested up to 40 feet away and no problem.

The muffled voice is the issue.

Going back to Apple on Sunday to try to get another replacement for my wife and show them my iPhone which works fine on bluetooth.

"....from your lips to Steve Job's ears....or God's..." depending who has greater impact on this problem.

So, you think that 4.1 beta 3 will fix the problem. Once loaded you have to delete the bluetooth device - reset - and then re-pair the device. Sounds hopeful. Do you know if any of the testers are using Plantronics VP?

I have the same issue. Everyone I hear fine they can not understand me. I usually call them back and it clears up. Outbound is usually fine inbound usually bad. I tried two different Bluetooth headsets same results.

I know Apple themselves has that particular headset. I do not.

Just spoke with Apple tech. support and my call was escalated to a senior support member...or whatever they call that... He was very forthright, told me that he's having the same issues with his Jawbone headset and that Apple is aware of the issue and is investigating. He had a couple of possible workaround suggestions:

1) Un-pair the device ("Forget" it) and then re-pair it.

2) Try the headset with the WiFi off.

He said that those are working for some customers and asked me to call him back to let him know how it works. (I don't have my headset today so I can't try it right away.)

It's good for Apple to hear the complaints and to know that customers are having these issues, so I think it's good to post your concern with their feedback. There's strength in numbers!

FYI - I have a Plantronics Voyager Pro.

There is no fix for this issue yet! I have had this problem since I bought the phone. Apple is aware of this issue and recommend the following:

~ Turn off Wi-Fi while using your Bluetooth
~ Or go into setting and "FORGET" your Bluetooth and re-sync it..

It's an echo cancelation bug. Been that way since Apple's own bluetooth headset made it to the market and had horrible echo issues. So they added some feature in the bluetooth stack that would eliminate their headset's echo issues, hence making things worse for every other headset out there.

Updated to 4.1. Still random calls in the cars integrated bluetooth are muffled. And caller ID randomly does not work.

The 4.1 beta 3? Or is the final 4.1 out? I don't have a good feeling about Bluetooth being fixed with 4.1. If they don't have a fix by Beta 3, well...
