iPhone 4/iOS 4 bluetooth muffled on other end

I don't know if it's the phone or the OS, but my headset worked fine with my iPhone 2g. On my new iPhone 4, every bluetooth headset I use connects fine and I can hear the caller perfect. Except, they say it sounds like there's a pillow over my mouth when I talk. To the point of not even recognizing what I say. I tried calling the house, and I can barely hear myself, and it will cut in and out. Anyone else getting this issue?

To add to the list of people with issues, you can add me. My Voyager Pro was flawless on my blackberry. On the iPhone it is like the first bluetooth headsets, that is does not work well at all. Have about 85% chance of really really bad performance and 10% for so so performance. It seems to be worse when the calls have low signal levels as with my 1st floor office.

I hope this gets fixed in the next release or this phone is being returned and bye bye to At&t.

Had the same, exact issue with both my Jawbone's on my iPhone 4. Constantly disconnecting and reconnecting, same complaints of being told I sound like I'm in a tunnel.
Found instructions from Jawbone for a "super reset", after following the steps, I had not one issue with either bluetooth all day, not once did I get disconnected, and I was told the call quality was much better than it was.

Good Grief Everyone..

This has been my problem from day one. I mean seriously never had a problem with my Iphone 3G, i upgrade to the Iphone 4, but the bluetooth is totally unusable.

I have tried a Motorola bluetooth headset, the Jawbone, Voyager Pro, and a blue ant. They ALL sound muffled. I get so fustrated trying to have a conversation.

APPLE GET THIS FIXED!

This complaint was first posted June 26th 2010 and here we are 25th of August 2010, now with version 4.0.2 and it still sounds like I am down a well with a pillow over my mouth, whenever I use the bluetooth in my car. My customers cannot understand a word I say. Calling apple support and letting them know that you have this problem, gets the response, "Yes, we are aware of the problem, we have been recieving many calls about it." At least they are not denying there is a problem, now they just have to hurry and get it fixed.
If you haven't called the apple support line yet, do it now. It is the only way to put pressure on them to HURRY.

Certainly get everyone's frustration. I think Apple got caught in a classic software development catch 22 - iOS 4.1 happens to include a major overhaul and upgrade of the bluetooth stack to add full compliance with AVRCP among other things. This will allow much greater integration with various BT devices including headsets.

In the midst of this, we discover a huge bug in the iOS 4.0 BT code base - do they fix it there and do a patch or fix it in 4.1. They chose the latter.

I know nothing about the release date of 4.1 but beta 3 is very solid and likely close to the final version. Hang in there - use the wired headset for now and you'll soon be back to Borg mode 😉
