Temperature WARNING - iPhone 4!

Same thing happened to me, I called Apple they gave me the standard.."must be software, restore and see if that helps" answer. Same thing happened after the restore so I just went to my local Apple store and they didn't even blink, they just replaced my phone.

I got the warning too. My phone wasn't even warm. I rebooted the phone and it hasn't happened again, but it just happened today. It's good to know Apple replaced it without a fuss.

Yeah, this is a huge problem. The only place to mount my phone in my car is over the A/C vent of the center console. Unfortunately, almost any direction I drive during the day, the sun heats the phone up significantly, even with the A/C on. Forget ATT dropping my call, merely the radiant heat coming through the windshield is enough to overpower the A/C and overheat the phone and shut it down.

The iPhone 4 replaces an original iPhone, which replaced a Motorola Razr, V3i, and Samsung Palm Phone. All of which used that cradle and NONE of which ever overheated, or shut down from heat.

In fact, even when I don't use the phone at all, but merely place it in the cradle, it is piping hot when I get out of the car.

Not really sure what to do about this. Perhaps Apple would suggest I buy another car that has better placement for my iPhone 4?

Other than this one little problem, my phone works great, I've had none of the other problems described by other users and the media. Couldn't be happier. But seriously this is a big problem. Would a case help? Or only make the problem worse?

Happened to me today. iPhone was just sitting there on the desk in an air conditioned room. A call came in and "Temperature" shows up on screen. I just rebooted and it went away.

Have you guys had the warning since then?

I have not. It was the first and only time I have received the message since the phone was released. I did have the NO SIM error the other day and had to take the sim card out and put it back again. That fixed that error.

Ive just had this exact same problem..

Phone has been sat on my desk in the office.

I get a phone call, phone dropped the call and shows me the temperature warning screen for a few minutes.. its gone now.. and im just hoping it doesnt come back..

The phone was cold to the touch and not in direct sunlight or anything..

A little bit annoying to say the least. phone is not housed in a case or anything either..

I called AppleCare and they pretty much told me nothing. She told me that after talking to her senior advisor that it's a normal feature of the phone. Even though it was only about 80 room temp when it occured. Pretty much, they don't know and I can exchange it if I want. Sigh

I had the overheat problem once. I took the phone to the Apple Store and they ran a diagnostic test on it. They said that "some" internal component reached over 170 degrees, hence the warning. The phone never felt warm.I also had the no sim problem, and the sim card had gone bad. My phone was exactly 1 month old. I had to take it to an AT&T store (one that sells iPhones). They determined that the sim card was bad and replaced it. You don't lose anything from the phone because it is saved on the phone, not on the sim.

At this point I am not sure what to do. My phone has no other issues except this and I have 2 more weeks left in my 30 days. I suppose I will keep it and keep a close eye on it. I don't want to get a new one with other potential problems.

I had the temperature warning on a phone that was in a shirt pocket and cool to the touch. I took it to the Apple store and according to the diagnostics, it was at 650 degrees. Of course this was either a sensor or software error. Apple had me do a full reset and restore.

I had the same issue, I just got the iphone two and a half weeks ago, it is my first iphone and I am upset about these issues. I went to answer a call and I got the temp warning while driving, the slide bar was in some kind of oriental language, and it said it needed to cool down. My phone was cool to the touch and hadn't been used. I took it to my local Apple store. I told them about this discussion and showed them the web-page and they said that this was not a problem they had listed in their database, that this discussion is just random people complaining. They ran the diagnostic test and my highest temp reading was 141.7. I got my phone in within 24 hours of the event, thanks to the advice of people on this discussion. Apple gave me a new iphone but said that it is an unusual occurance and not to worry. I went to Best Buy and the guys there said that Apple hadn't released the white iphone yet because of the overheating issue turning the back of it brown (I do not know if this is true or not). But why is Apple releasing a phone with a known heating issue? I am hoping this new phone lasts longer than two and a half weeks! Good luck to everybody with the heating issue and hopefully Apple figures out a fix for all of us before somebody's phone catches fire!

i also got my iphone from AT&T but you have to go to Apple to get a new one. With the iphone it seems that if you have any issues you go to an Apple store for support and help instead of AT&T. Also make an appointment with the genius bar otherwise you might have to wait a couple of hours depending on how busy they are. Good luck.

Happened to me on my replacement phone with my phone on my desk nice and cool. Powered the phone off and on and haven't seen it since. Hope it stays that way. This was about 2 weeks ago. Phone was replaced for Bluetooth issues which it still has as well as a prox issue. The iPhone 4 launch has been a bit rough to say the least and I have had all the iPhones since day one. I hope they get the bugs worked out soon. Ugh!

I got this Temperature WARNING yesterday (July 30, 2010) on my new iPhone 4 as well. I took it to the Apple store to have them run a diagnostic on it and the test stated that the temperature got up to over *650 Degrees Fahrenheit* (seen this with my own eyes). I really don't see how this is possible but it happened. They were kind enough to replace my phone after seeing that.

It was a good thing that I was able to do a screen shot of the message to show the Apple techs. Otherwise it would have been hard to explain the problem.
