Trouble With FaceTime

I just bought an unlocked iPhone 4 on the realease day (Thursday) at Apple Store in Paris. On friday i came back to Brazil. I'm trying to enable FaceTime here, but every time I try to aneable it i receve an SMS from a French number (+44 7786 205094) with an odd message: ¿¿¿¿y¿¿REG-RESP?v=2;r=XXXXXXX;n=+XXXXXXXXX;s=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

(I marked as X the numbers and codes I received, since it's look likes an password and a hash code)

At the settings the facetime keep anouncing "waiting for activation".

What can be happeining?

Best regards,

iPhone 4, iOS 4

guys, i was facing this same problem with my IP4.

This is the main issue. When you bring an IP4 (even if legally and officially unlocked versions) from a country that sells them factory unlocked (Canada, England, France), and you bring it to your home country to work on a GSM Carrier, it will make calls...because your carrier is GSM and the phone is unlocked....but FaceTime is another issue. For FT to work, it sends a Silent Text to England (the 44 ) and the issue is when your home carrier cant accept the text back from the apple server to activate facetime...reason being your GSM carrier is not an official carrier, even your IP4 is factory unlocked.

Here is what I did, I was lucky enough to be travelling through Heathrow airport, where i activated facetime, and it worked. Because my IP4 was roaming on another country's carrrier--who also happened to be an official carrier for IP4...so if you do that, it will work when you bring it back home. The activation is the problem..you want to activate on an official carrier--so you will have to roam on an official carrier and do it then.

The problem is coming from CLARO.

I bought my iPhone in Brazil at a TIM Shop. The phone is factory unlocked. It worked from day 1.

However Claro is not yet registered at Apple's servers to use the facetime yet.

You may want to try using it via e-mail invitation and not SMS.
It could work.

Claro says until this weekend (Sep 25) they are trying to get themselves registered on the Apple server.

A friend of mine bought her iPhone4 IN BRAZIL and at a Claro shop and her's is not activating Facetime either.

Hope this helps.

I bought the IP4 @ a Vivo store, so it is an official device.

I have activated Facetime without any problem. I made 2 or 3 Facetime calls and it worked 100%.

Today, when trying to activate a friend's iPhone, I turned Facetime off. Then, it didn't activated correctly.

After many (more than 5 hours) dealing with it without success, here is what I finally did:

- restored my iPhone to factory settings;
- don't restored the last backup;
- didn't accepted the Carrier's updated settings;

Activated Facetime - took 30 seconds to activate!

- restored the last backup;
- accepted Carrier's updated settings;

Facetime is still there!

Looks like Vivo's iPhones work with Vivo settings 8.0 & 8.1 but only activates for the first time with version 8.0.

Hope this helps!

Facetime is by far the most awkward application I have ever encountered on a Mac device, and I've been using them for 20 years now. I'm still trying to clear our contact info in Facetime that doesn't even exist in my Contacts. Now I have to go through forums and probably use a terminal command or some other backward way instead of just being able to clear data directly in Facetime where I entered it in the first place. What a joke.
