White Balance on iPhone 4

I was wondering if anyone has heard of the white balance issue being addressed in an upcoming update?

Mine is extremely warm (yellow) indoors, but pretty good outdoors.
I have had it to get cold while allowing direct sunlight to hit it, but thats understandable.

Is this issue universal to all iPhone 4's? I was hoping I just had a bad phone and a replacement would resolve this issue, but judging by all the other reports in this thread, that's not likely. I'll miss my gorgeous retina display, but if this isn't resolved quickly, I'll have to go back to the 3GS. 😟

He you tried the camera in different lighting? I am getting beautiful indoor shots, with and without flash, with CFL lighting, but under tungsten (which is a much warmer light source) I get some yellowing if the room color is also warm...

i'm not sure what kinds of cameras you're using, but it's certainly not "normal". white balance EXISTS to correct for different kinds of colour temp... currently the iPhone 4 is having great problems with 3200K and under (indoor or incandescent light.. light bulbs). this is a major issue that is widespread and i hope to be fixed with a software update since technically white balance is corrected via software and not hardware.

if your "others cameras" are doing that as well.. i would seriously consider a new camera. 🙂

Ought to be a software issue, as the problem is the same with the front camera, which is a totally different hardware.

I exchanged mails with a developper of a commercial camera app for the iPhone, and he said being "aware of the issue" and "already started finding a solution".

This means the problem is UNIVERSAL to all iPhones and it is a software glitch...

The camera white balance issue remains on my iPhone 4 after I installed iOS 4.1. A sample shot of a white and brown product box taken indoors at night under bright CFL lighting w/o flash resulted in a somewhat dark and very yellow picture. The same shot taken in darkness w/flash and with CFL lights off under zenon under cabinet lighting w/o flash resulted in pictures with correct white balance. The same shot taken under CFL lighting with an iPhone 3GS was not nearly as yellow.

i am a week into having my iPhone 4 and just did the upgrade to 4.1. i also have the white balance problem. i took a picture with a friend i saw at a store in Chicago on a recent trip to Chicago and posted it to Facebook. i got home and everyone was asking whether we were trying out to be Oompa Loompas. it's pretty embarrassing to be yellow/orange in all indoor shots. is this something that Apple can fix? this thread has been going for months and i was hoping 4.1 would fix it, but maybe it's more of a lens problem? can i exchange my phone or is this too pervasive to hope for a better one?
