Installing Boot Camp drivers on Win XP

Hello,
i installed win xp sp2 on my new MacBook Pro. During installation of boot camp on windows, message "Service Mac HAL (MacHALDriver) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services." appears. Ignoring this finishes the installation without having installed drivers of trackpad, keyboard, sound etc. making the use of windows hard.

Any help?

ps: tried installing separately the drivers from cd but it didn't work either. It is more than clear that i am the administrator since there is only one user account made. Everything is up to date except windows drivers because there is no network drivers installed either.

I am having the same issue as the two other folks. However, I am using a US-spec machine and US-spec version of Windows XP.

Here are the machine specs:

Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro6,2
Processor Name: Intel Core i7
Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Processor Interconnect Speed: 4.8 GT/s
Boot ROM Version: MBP61.0057.B0A
SMC Version (system): 1.58f16

The version of XP is OEM, labeled on the holographic CD as "Microsoft Windows XP Professional", "Includes Service Pack 2", "Version 2002". The Boot Camp process went without a hitch, while the driver installation from the OS X 10.6 install DVD (included with the system) while in Windows XP gave some errors, including the HAL error.

I tried numerous things, such as repairing the Boot Camp drivers (from the menu provided by the Apple installer on the install DVD), removing and then re-installing Boot Camp services, running various installers downloaded from the Apple support site. I also tried to use Apple Software Update as documented to update the Boot Camp Windows-side package (which is version 3.1), but nothing newer was offered.

This version of XP has worked fine on an older Macbook Pro, circa 2008.
