Cannot slide to answer phone calls

I try to answer call but slider refuses to move fully to right and "fights" against me. Have to try a few times and then sometimes works.

Some observations:
Currently have a 3GS but had same problem on a 3G.
Been through various OS updates with same problem IOS3 IOS4.
Only happens when trying to answer phone "Slide to unlock" always works.
Pressing menu button or turning silent button on/off a few times seems to help but shouldn't need to do this.

Have read other posts about resetting phone and ringtones but only use standard ringtone.

Any ideas?

Talked Apple into giving me a new iPhone 4. The problem REAPPEARED after I restored from backup. The Apple rep said the cause is most likely a currupt software issue. He wanted me to restore as new and NOT SYNC ANYTHING. I chose to not do that. Going to wait and see how annoying the problem becomes before I wipe the phone completly. I took the precaution of syncing my contacts to gmail so I have a clean set of contacts if I have to do a "bare metal" restore at some future point.

The same problem with my iphone4 too. I tried every thing in order to get rid of this problem. But no use, then i tried to find the couse why its not working while receving incoming calls! The 1st reason is, the phone heats while reciving incoming call and it equals with the tepmrature of finger so it could not slide up. But you can use another finger to slide it. Some times it helps. Next reason is dust and face sweat which dries over the phone! And it can interupt to get sence of finger heat, if you clean it up hardly you can slide it to answer.

But best way to get read of this Is to install "tap to unlock themes" from cydia. And i suggest to the apple guys to add this tap to answer option to the next updates!

Same problem here. For no apparent reason, I cannot slide to answer for incoming calls, and it happens about once every other day or so. I've tried resetting, restoring, everything, but to no avail. For me, the lockup only happens with incoming calls, and I can discern no apparent pattern.

I did a google on this and saw that this problem has been discussed all the way back to 2007, but astonishingly there has still been no fix bug fix from Apple. I suppose we can only wait and hope that iOS 5 might fix the bug. Or get another phone that can reliably answer calls.

I have had the same issue for about 6 months or so. Seems to have occurred after an IOS Update not sure which but based on the the fact that it started about January 2011 maybe Apple can isolate. It always happens after my Iphone4 has been in my pocket for a very long time. I carry it with the screen facing my thigh thus it is very warm when I take it out and try to swipe with no luck. I wasn't aware I could answer a call by hitting the home button twice as some have posted here but I will try next time. I would say this issue occurs 1 out of 20 calls so its not too bad. But like all of you my Iphone is great but not if I can't answer a call...

I get the problem even when my iPhone is laying flat on my desk in an air conditioned office, so it's not heat that is the issue for me. Also, the "home button twice" won't pick up the call when the slider is unresponsive. Only a restart will fix the issue once that has happened. This issue is just incredibly annoying, and even more so that it persists for four years since it was first reported here in this forum in 2007. Get with it Apple!

Heyy I think I found the solution...

iPhone uses the technology which uses the electrical change at the screen on the iPhone.

Then if you wear a glove then u can't move a thing on your iPhone.

You will notice that girls and ladies have no problem with it, right?

That's because how they keep their iPhone...

If u're a guy you will have to put your iPhone into your pocket .."and that's the key!!"

If you place your iPhone screen to your thigh all the time then your iPhone screen's electrical current is the same on your body...and after that someone suddenly calls you ..guess what... You can't slide to answer ..because there is no electrical change on your iPhone screen...

My solution is that ..I keep my iPhone with iPhone screen face out of your thigh..

And I never have this problem again...

I hope this help .. Good luck :)

I think if you read through the hundreds of reports regarding this issue, including the one I posted just before your reply, you will find that the problem with screen lock on incoming calls is not limited to instances where a user has the iPhone in their pocket. While some sort of static build-up might be causing a problem for some users, it is not the root cause of this issue. I should add that the only time I and many others have every experienced an unresponsive touch screen is with an incoming call.
