Bluetooth callers can't hear me

For my home phone system I have the VTech DS6322 cordless phone system which features a bluetooth enabled base station for connecting to cell phones. I can receive and make calls on my iPhone from one of the four cordless handsets throughout my house. Although the system worked flawlessly with my iPhone 3G, ever since upgrading to the iPhone 4 callers can not hear me very well when using the bluetooth connection even though I can hear them just fine. They say it sounds is if I'm muffling the handset, or not speaking into the mic.

Anyone know of a fix for this. As I mentioned, the system worked great with my iPhone 3G.

iPhone 4, iOS 4

Hey, I'm having the same problem, not with the type of phone system you're describing, but with bluetooth headsets. So I imagine that underlyingly it's the same problem. What bothers me is that this issue seems to be less discussed or less common than the problem others are having of simply pairing their ip4 to their bluetooth devices. I can pair mine without a problem, but then the audio is muffled for the other party when I speak. I definitely hope Apple is aware of this problem and is able to fix it soon!

I am having the same problems. I use Sennheisser stereo bluetooth earbuds, Alpine (car) bluetooth adapter for stereo AND a Blinc bluetooth (Oneal motorcycle helmet) device --- ALL of them sound muffled to the other parties. I can hear them fine, however it is very hard for them to understand me. ALL of these devices worked FLAWLESSLY with my iPhone 3gs and 3g.

I have also noticed that with my Blinc stereo bluetooth, it will only play stereo music from the iPod application after a iPhone reboot. After I disconnect and reconnect I can not play music from the iPhone over the Blinc.

This is a pain in the rear, when will this be fixed and is it a known issue somewhere that we can track?

Same here regardless of the brand of the bluetooth headset. I tried Plantronics 925, Pioneer car stereo system, Jawbone, Jawbone icon, Sony DRC-BT15, Tritton, and many more. They all react the same with muffled voice that callers can't listen to what I'm saying.

They all work perfectly on my 3GS and other phones!
It's been posted in this discussion board many times!

I am having similar problems. My wife & I both have new iP4's and Jawbone Icon headsets. These headsets worked flawlessly with our iP3G's. No problems pairing. If the headset is turned on and I take a call, all works very well. If I take a call on the handset and THEN turn on the headset, my wife gets the same "muffled" sound. If I toggle back and forth between the handset/headset on the iP4 "sources" screen" it will SOMETIMES connect properly and both parties can hear properly. If I close the call and call again with the headset already connected, it works. We've done this experiment the other way, and her phone/headset behaves the same way.

I am having bluetooth reception issues whereby those who speak with hear a muffled voice, although I hear them well. I also get the seemingly random Bluetooth drops, and get reconnected within 30 seconds, exactly. I believe I may have isolated a probable effect. First, the constants:

iPhone 4: 32GB, black with Bluetooth and WiFi on; using Plantronics Voyager PRO with BT version 2.1 (this headset is the same in use with my iPhone 3G [S] prior to and after updating to iOS4; no problems noticed with OS3 or 4; latter OS used during 1 week prior to upgrading to iPhone 4, can't recall any complaints from callers)

Home (Alameda, CA): 2.4GHz TimeCapsule for WiFi supplemented by AirPort Express, both with (802.11n)

Office (San Francisco, CA): Dual Band TimeCapsule for WiFi supplemented by AirPort Express with (802.11n)

Car: No added features

Symptoms: When at home or at the office, calls coming in or out generally reported to me as being muffled. When outside walking or driving in the car, with or without windows and/or sunroof open, no reported voice clarity issues by those with whom I am speaking using my Voyager PRO. No voice clarity issues without the Bluetooth, everything is fine in terms of call clarity, no call drops, no problems with proximity sensor. It does not matter whether WiFi is on or not. No problems or differences in clarity either way. Good to go outside and away from WiFi hotspot.

Discovery: When I turn off WiFi on the iPhone 4 at home or in the office, muffled voice issue goes away within 30 seconds (typical polling period). When I turn on the iPhone 4's WiFi, the muffled voice issue returns within 30 seconds. I even receive an audible signal on my headset! Leaving it on, I will walk out of the house (or the office) and within 30-60 seconds, the reported muffled voice issue goes away.

Conclusion: there appears to be some conflict between the Bluetooth and WiFi when in the range of a WiFi device serving up an Internet connection. Not sure if it is due to the antennas in the iPhone, or if it software related, or both.

I sincerely hope that this repeatable troubleshooting report helps in some way to resolve the issue that many of us are reporting.

Irving, I read your post and thank you for a keen observation. I will test this to see if the reason my bluetooth quality varies is due to your observation. It will take me a time to try it as I need to wait for my brother to monitor my voice.

Here is the text you posted that I found most enlightening.
