iPhone 4 Screen Scratching

Hi-

I have kept my new iPhone 4 in my pocket with NOTHING SHARP...no keys, no pins...nothing. And I already have a few fine scratches on a supposedly "chemically strengthened and 20x harder than plastic screen".

Has anybody else had this problem?

Why not try a case like this?:

I've got one very similar, and it protects the front and back of the iPhone perfectly. I've got no scratches at all after 2+ months. I also had a leather flip-style case for my iPod Touch, and after about 2 years, it has not one scratch. A lot of these flip cases are really nice because they really don't add any bulk to the phone at all, and you can still slip it in your pocket, or purse, or whatever.

What I do like to do is make sure that I keep dust and stuff off the phone whenever I can, with a gentle sweep of the side of a finger. I know that even dust can scratch when it's rubbed against glass in the right -- or WRONG! -- way. 🙂

The way I look at it, the phone is worth over $700 (mine is), what's another $50 bucks or so to get a good quality case to protect it? This is the case that I have my iPhone in: (it doesn't have the cutout for the Apple logo on the back as pictured - which I prefer):

I've got a small hair line scratch on the top left of the screen which appeared very unexpectedly one day. I have the bumpers so it's not direct contact it must have been a coin or something. Sorry but the argument it doesn't scratch is just wrong it clearly does. This is my 3rd iPhone I know what I'm talking about. It's not a massive problem unless I'm outside and the sun reflects off the scratch it's hard to read the display as your eyes are distracted by it's glare.

Same problem here in Brazil. My iPhone 4 has 5 months. Never dropped it, always kept it clean. Always in my cotton pocket. Suddenly, out of the blue, a scratch appeared in the front screen. Apple have always been criticized for high prices, and I used to reply that it is worth the price. Now, what can I say? First, the antenna problem. Second, the green spot on pictures taken under fluorescent light. Now, the screen with scratches. What’s next? Shame on you Apple. Shame on you, Mr Jobs.

Have you ever heard of silicrylic cases? It's rubber inside and hard plastic outside it's an agile case that I intentionally drop my favorite device 4" up and on hard floor. And the otterbox defender series? I use that class of protection but still I fill scratches that comes out of nowhere. But as of the moment it seem to have stopped scratching itself.... This is a weird phenomenon.

Actually, I've just ordered an Otterbox Defender in orange off of eBay, and it should arrive any day... thought I'd try one of those, too.

I will get screen protectors for both the front and back of the phone, though, to use under the Otterbox. Hopefully that will keep me from getting anything. I'll see how it goes. If there's going to be a problem, I'll go back to my lime green leather flip case. It's been pretty much perfect so far, and I've had the phone almost 7 months now. 🙂

I've had my iPhone 4 since September 2010 and the only case I've used is the Incase Snap Case http://www.goincase.com/products/detail/snap-case-cl59593/2

without a screen protector and I haven't got any scratches. Maybe there was something faulty in manaufacturing of the earlier iPhone 4 screens.

My only issues with the screen are keeping it clear of skin oil and finger prints, though its nothing a damp soft cloth can't handle.

I have had the 3g and 3gs and 4 iPhones and never had a scratch. Bought the iPhone 4 the day it was released had it for a year and no scratches. I had some issues with the iPhone 4 and they gave me a different one, within a week I have 3 scratches in the screen. I have treated all my iPhones exactly. Keep it in my pocket and nothing else thats how I have always done it. Never have had a screen protector. Why, when I get this replacement I get scratches? I am an avid Apple user but this is very dissapointing... I love my iPhone but hate that i'm gonna have scratches from now on...

I do have the rubish called iPhone 4 almost 3 months keeping it all the time in clean environment (I'm a lawyer) and one wouldn't believe what scratches I've got on it! I will return it again because of signal drops and a rubish glass called "tough". Honestly, I was expecting a bit more from this device that costs me more than 650 Euros. Now I'm sorry that I sold my HTC HD2 which I used more than 1,5 year and had the only one little deep scratch caused by accidental drop out of the device on the road (asfalt) lie down by display side.

It's just an image that people buy and I was also one of the fan of Mac products, but now I will think twice if I purchase any product from them. I just tried to google more about claims and customers satisfections... check yourself...
