iphone 4 dropped calls

I know everyone is complaining about holding the phone and dropped calls. I've had more dropped calls in the last couple of days with the new phone than the last 2 years with my 3G.

Here's the real concern: I NEVER would have a dropped call in my house with the 3G, while it's happened several times with the phone in my pocket while using the headset. Even more disconcerting: I was just on the phone with a client and the iphone was laying on my desk, not touching anything. Middle of the call...gone.

I was on the 3G network, so I have now switched to Edge. Does that seem to help anyone else out there?

This is a mess...wish I could go back to 3G phone

I'm in the exact same boat! I have never had more dropped calls in the last couple of days with this new phone than I've had with the entire 2 years with my 3G! Also, I NEVER got dropped calls at home, where I work, until NOW! I was on a call with a customer and I wasn't even holding my phone when the call dropped. This is such BS! They need to do something about this, and they need to do it QUICK! This *****!

Apple's letter is sad. Very sad. I thought it was a joke.

That do not admit the antenna problem other than to say you're holding it wrong.
They basically say they're selling a ton anyway. If you don't like it return it.

For those who don't mind having a phone with lousy reception, they will FIX it by LOWERING the number of pretty bars shown on the pretty reception impaired phone.

I am ashamed to be an owner of Apple products, an investor in Apple stock, of having a business based on Apple software.

I thought I would add some anecdotal evidence to my previous post.

I formatted the phone and this time I set it up as a "new phone" in iTunes. I also removed and reinserted the sim card as well. I also clicked on the "Reset Network Settings" as well.

Since then, we have gone 2 days in a row without a dropped/failed call or the sound going in and out. On every previous day, we had multiple calls with issues.

I still have my doubts that the problem is fixed, but at least we have made an improvement.

I still haven't received my iPhone 4 yet but while as of yesterday I was eagerly awaiting the new phone today I am wishing I would have held off. I'm currently a verizon customer and I have never had a dropped call. I've been reading about this and I am getting really concerned about my choice to buy the iPhone 4. I don't want to be stuck with a phone w/ bad or even no reception and a contract w/ AT&T. If my phone starts dropping calls I'm sending it back directly to Apple for a full refund. Also, I will want my AT&T contract cancelled immediately if the phone and network fail to provide reliable service.

I paid way too much money for this phone and AT&T contract. I'm not going to be stuck with them.

And I do agree the "bars" issue is really a bunch of non-sense... Just because the bars aren't displaying correctly shouldn't affect the reception on the phone.

I sure the problem is fixed QUICKLY as I'm supposed to receive my phone in about 2 weeks.

Please come through for us Apple!

Sorry for all your dropped calls, I went from the 3g with a lot of dropped call to the 4 and not one dropped call. I bought 2 Phones, my wife and I love this thing. I was reading this discussing page before I bought our phones and all most didn't because of all the stuff going on. But like and thing else people are going to complain and what's on the discussion board is just a small (like a grain of sand) portion of people that bought the Iphone4 there were 1.7 million sold.

I guess what I trying to say is if you bought the new phone and not happy with it you have 30 days to return it. it's not like you have to keep it. lets get back to what this apple discussions board it for, to help others that are having trouble and trying to help them. Not complaining and complaining bashing AT&T and Apple. Some of ya'll need to grow up. It's been said many times before Apple does not read this section.

Its a known, real, hardware design problem.
Apple should fix it.

Otherwise it shows that Apple no longer builds premium products. The iPhone 4 is not the best by a long shot. And ignoring the problem shows amazingly poor customer service. There are worthy competitors. The HTC Incredible on Verizon, HTC EVO on Sprint, soon the Droid X on Verizon, and Samsung Galaxy S on T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon.

Those who care about Apple don't want to see them tarnish the brand. It violates our trust that Apple will produce great, or at least good products.

Actually Apple does keep track of the discussion boards... I've seen entire threads removed because of "bad press" against Apple.

Also, I have every right to post my concerns and/or problems on this board. So, please don't tell me to "Grow Up". I'm putting out a decent amount of money. I should have a right to voice my opinion or my concerns. Besides, people need a place to go and find out if they are the only person having a certain problem.

I do agree with you on the fact you really only hear the "problems" on these boards and not the "glory" of Apple products. So, I'm very concerned as to why I have mostly only seen problems reported and not good responses. I'm not so worried about getting my money back from Apple but rather canceling my AT&T contract... Which you are essentially "forced" to accept if you want the iPhone 4.

Also, the unless the "Bars" issue directly impacts the reception of the iPhone a software fix for the Bars will not improve the reception of the phone itself.

I have purchased 5 iPhone 4's for my family and myself. All previous 3GS users, same house, same office and we ALL are experiencing dropped calls that we NEVER had before in those same locations. Replaced micro sim cards per AT&T, purchased "bumpers", and still have the problem. I'm not an engineer, just a guy who has purchased a lot of products for my family, business and friends from Apple. I am afraid to say that I don't think this time it's AT&T. I have actually had great service until June 24th. I am hoping that Apple cares about it's loyal customers and makes this right. Lowering my BARS on my phone is NOT the answer. Get your act together Apple. This is not very classy, nor your style!

Yes I have to agree with you what you post. BTW Apple does read all the post on here and sometime edit a flew which people don't post the right thing to say.

As the problem for the iPhone 4. For 90% of you who have drop calls with this new phone. It's because they didn't set it up as a new phone on iTunes and didn't reset the networks setting on their iPhone 4 setting. If you set it up from back up from your old phone then you have a bug that you bring into the new iPhone software. 3.x and 4.0 has been complete been rewritten so that's the problem. If it's not that then you have two things you can do. Get your refund or replace you phone. It's a hardware problem.

Apple has sold 2 million iPhone 4 so their should have some bad hardware phones out their. Nobody has a product that come out perfect. That's why you get a one years warranty with every product..
