iphone 4 dropped calls

I know everyone is complaining about holding the phone and dropped calls. I've had more dropped calls in the last couple of days with the new phone than the last 2 years with my 3G.

Here's the real concern: I NEVER would have a dropped call in my house with the 3G, while it's happened several times with the phone in my pocket while using the headset. Even more disconcerting: I was just on the phone with a client and the iphone was laying on my desk, not touching anything. Middle of the call...gone.

I was on the 3G network, so I have now switched to Edge. Does that seem to help anyone else out there?

This is a mess...wish I could go back to 3G phone

Yep - me too. I have had the 3GS and it never dropped calls. Really. I have dropped EVERY CALL since the new phone is out. They have reset the network, toggled the 3G, and removed sim card...all failed.

I bought a case at the AT&T Store, still failed to solve it. The biggest issue now is that I am NOT EVEN HOLDING THE PHONE!!! I have it sitting on my desk with the headset plugged into it.

WOW am I disappointed. Amazingly this thing is not working. They are sending to the Apple store where another idiot will make another genius excuse. I am going to give it one more try and then I am going BACK to my 3GS.

I have a iPhone 3GS and i experience the exact same symptoms consistently. If i hold it naturally covering the lower left (with either hand) then i watch my signal drop to 0 bars and then "searching". This problem has always been there, its just now brought to the forefront because the new iPhone 4 brags about the stainless antenna and competeing Droid phones are dimensionally large enough to address the attenuation problem that most smaller phones have. I had two different Nokias and a small Samsung (before my iPhone) that i complained numeriously to ATT that I would lose my signal when I picked it up in my hand and they kept telling that they were upgrading towers and you have to reboot your phone. This solution never worked. I think ATT just has bad cell service overall especially in Chicago and most phone manufactures have not figured out a way to engineer an antenna internally in a tiny phone that does require a slide out antenna or stub(remember those?). Larger and thicker phones will always have the upper hand (no pun intended) in signal strength.

Same problem here with our iphone 4. Lots of dropped/failed calls. Can't remember the last time we had a dropped call with the iphone 3G.

Holding the bottom left hand corner does not drop any bars of signal so this is a different issue.

Originally did a restore from backup when setting up the phone. Will format the phone tonight and try again to rule out any software issues.

I have the same problem. I thought at first it may be the issue of bridging the two antennas, so I started holding it more carefully and then finally just trying to use the speakerphone but I still drop calls and parts of my conversation will just mute out.

It's horrible, with most phones you might hear some static or a garbled voice but the line will actually go quite. Based on what the recipients of my calls say, sometimes I will just go quite and they can't hear anything. This leads to some very awkward pauses.

Apple, I really hope you are listening. I really love this phone but its not worth my $100 a month ATT bill if I can't call people. 😟

I had the original iPhone and the transmitter had started to fail. I was dropping calls all the time. I waited for the iPhone 4 and thought it would be smooth sailing again, WOW WAS I WRONG! I was on the phone with AT&T and before I could get to technical support I dropped the call 7 times. When I finally got to tech support I dropped the call 6 times and when I finally did get through to apple...HMMM Guess what! The call was dropped another 4 times! I am not touching the phone and I have the APPLE BUMPERS on the phone! WHAT THE ****!!! I will never ever buy another iPhone again. Apple gave my nothing to help this situation at all. We ran through every setting and I have changed out sim cards...NOTHING and all APPLE could do was say sorry. This is very upsetting since I try and run a business with my phone. I don't want sorry I WANT THIS FIXED!!!!!

Try fixing the problem by taking out the sim card and making sure the gold part of he sim card doesn't touch the edge of the plastic tray. It works for most people. The sim card is not getting a good connection with the inner part of the phone. Hope it works out. If that doesn't work out it has to be a AT&T. Because Apple sold the iPhone 4 to 4 other countries and I have not heard any problems yet from those countries.

Same problems I am experiencing-- I've had more dropped calls in the last couple of days with the new phone than the last 2 years with my 3G. I am mad at myself for selling 3G too quickly.

With the iphone4 I do not touching anything and in the middle of calls...gone.

This is a mess...wish I could go back to 3G phone OR might force me to switch to DROID.

having the same problem with my iphone 4. just dropped 4 calls in a row while waiting on hold trying to call my cable company. I wasn't even holding the phone, it's just sitting here on my desk and I'm using the headset.

they all dropped around the 5 minute mark like clockwork. (full bars btw) but I've had calls drop constantly since i bought it. This is horrible.

I have dropped 6 calls today all in my house.
Before on my 3GS I would drop one a month at MOST. This is RIDICULOUS!!!! My wife and I both upgraded from a 3GS and have had MANY issues with data and voice connectivity. I just did the ActiveSync profile update and I am still having issues when I am not on WiFi. This is something that Apple and AT&CRAP need to fix!!
