iPhone 4 Freezes, forced to restore

I have been using my iPhone for the past week with few complaints until the last 24 hours. Initially, when I attempted to launch the Mail program, it would start to maximize on the screen, then quickly display the black background with apple logo and a little swirl. Then I would be brought to the lock screen. I restored the software and started from a new profile just to make sure my backup wasn't the issue.

The phone worked fine all day today... About two hours, I was about to check my phone to reply to a text and without unlocking or doing anything to the phone, there was the white apple logo with spinning bars. This time it started while the phone was locked and sitting on a desk.

Restoring brings back normal functionality, but does anyone have any advice on how to prevent this from happening. The only thing I can imagine is my text message history. One conversation has about 15000 texts which I would prefer not to delete unless this is the root of the problem

Thanks for any input. Also, have tried restoring from both a Mac and PC to see if there was any different pattern but no...

Same issues here. Hangs, freezes or spontaneous restarts every 2-3 hours.

I spent hours googling and found a guy that mentioned something about the issue emerging after having changed the background image.
So I tried changing the background on my phone from one of my own pictures to one of the default pictures.

That was two days ago and the issues seem to be gone.

Please let me know any of you experience the same.

Hi, I guess I had the best 'worst' experience of all you guys and wish to share. I bought a Iphone4 as a gift for my wife. I bought a refurbished one as I thought 'after all it's from Apple, there is nothing bad that can happen' and I get to save some money. The phone came in and we celebrated, even got a Otter box for it. I am a geek so as instinct goes; I grabbed it from my wife and started to play with it. Within the first one hour of switching it on-- it froze. First I thought i that it required an update. But the iOS was brand latest. I started to play with it a bit more, but it never ended.
The alarm I set on the phone didn't ring in the morning as it froze (somewhere in the middle of the night I guess). I tried a full battery charge, update OS again etc. Nothing happened.
I removed all of the apps in the morning to make sure apps were not an issue. Back from office on Day 2, I had to restart it again. ####. I loaded some apps again and then there was Magic... The phone just shut down and restarted automatically...and there it was ---the screen as good as new. Why? as all my apps that I downloaded were gone.
Tired and frustrated I go to the At&t store who point me to Apple store. Where the guy replaces me with another one. Happy I and my happy wife with the swift and nice response from the Apple store return home.
I never knew more magic waits me "History 'almost' repeated itself". I couldn't figure out what bad Karma that I did that the iPhones I get are 'cursed'. The mercury is climbing outside but my phone is still freezing. We went for snow tubing last weekend. We took a wonderful pic (with the phone) we loved it a lot. After an hour or so when I wanted to preview the pics it showed be 'blanks' with the letter JPG. I don't know what to do. Am I being tested for my patience or Apple just wants to sell back all the junk they have with a policy "Take it or Leave it" or is it just bad luck.

SOLUTION FOR ME

I use a MAC so cannot help with Windows users.

I found a thread that told me that if you have WI-FI SYNC installed on your pc then this was causing the problem and needed to been unistalled. I did and restarted my MAC, plugged in my iPhone to restore and it did, no freezing at all. No need to use another pc to update! I only had iTunes open no other apps.

To unistall WI-FI SYNC you will need to go to their website and download the removal tool. Once installed it will automatically open in Terminal and will request the administartor password so make sure you have it to hand.

Good Luck

I know for a fact that you can call apple and tell them your serial number. Then they will ask for your iphone problem. Say whatever it is, if there is no solution, they can give you a replacement for free, because every apple product comes with one year warrenty when you buy it, so this lets you trade it in. They give you a new one and research your problem with the one you give them. But they must somehow validate the problem is actually a problem, and not some cheap old lie. Good luck.
