iPod Touch no longer works with car stereo after 4.0 update

I updated my iPod to 4.0 a couple of days ago, and my Hyundai Santa Fe's built-in iPod interface no longer recognizes my iPod's music - it just says "empty iPod" or something of that nature. Is anyone else having this problem?? What should I do?

Heard back from my awesome Hyundai salesman and he passed along this info:

"Have your customer try this... Reboot your phone (This is done by
pressing and holding the top and Home buttons simultaneously for 8-10
seconds, ignoring the red slider bar that pop up on the screen, until
the screen goes black.") Then when your phone is off, plug it into your
car.. After that turn your phone on, while still plugged in."

Worked for me.

I have an iTouch that was recently updated to 4.0, (not only did I have to re-upload ALL OF MY MUSIC BECAUSE IT WAS DELETED.... that aside) now I went to use it in my '08 Scion xB (which used to work w/ my scosche passport adapter) now it not only doesn't charge my itouch, it's not reading it either. Can I get an update for my adapter or is there some other way to get it working again. Must have tunes in the car! UGH talk about frustrated.... can someone please help me!

I installed an iSimple interface (May 2010) so I could listen to my iPod touch in the car. After updating my touch this past weekend, I get the following message when I plug it into the car cable, "This accessory not supported by the iPod Touch." Sweet. Is Apple going to address this? I contacted the company that makes the interface, Peripheral Electronics a division of AAMP of American (800-477-2267) and they do not currently have a fix. I was told to flip the #4 dip switch down (runs iPod as AUX input) which means I've got to tear apart the dash to get to the unit. This is NOT cool.

Same issue with Mini Cooper (BMW) stereo. iOS 4 caused iPOD to be very sluggish to connect. The "reset" solution is a bit of a red herring. It appears that enough of the "multitasking" made it into my 2G device to leave some apps loaded after use. The reset just clears them out (temporarilty) and gives the appearance of a fix. The biggest improvement came when I disabled the "Passcode lock" feature. Now it can at least connect to the stereo after two or three tries, and then works okay until the next time I connect it. It looks like they screwed the pooch with this one, but just try getting anyone's attention! Trying "genius bar" appointment next and I'll see what other lore they pass on.

I have the same problem ("iPod empty") with my iPod touch suddenly not working with my Elantra Touring stereo. I have just updated to iTunes 9.2.1.5.

I had to use my portable iHome with my iPod during this week's round trip drive (Boston to Buffalo). I would have been very unhappy without it.

My car goes in for an oil change tomarrow. I was going to ask for a new Hyundai iPod cable, but I see that I am not the only one with a similar problem. Is there a virus out there or just some incompatability?

I would hate to have to reload my iPod since have lots on it.

Add me to the list. Brand blankety-new ipod touch that after 4.0.2 wouldn't work with the Subaru-factory-installed ipod connector in my '08 STI. The shut-it-off-and-restart-in-the-car method at least made it able to play music again but still no recharging.
To add insult to injury I did the have-an-Apple-GENIUS call me thing. The first thing was that they called me....for about 1/4 of a second. The phone blipped for less than a ring and then I got an email saying, "Oh, we TRIED to reach you and you weren't there. Why don't you call us?". So I called and was immediately put on hold. When one of the geniuses finally picked up, I described the issue with great patience and his insightful answer was, "let me put you on hold while I talk to my supervisor." So I sat on hold for five minutes until...they just hung up...no answer, no, "gee we think you're SOL"....just "click". Thanks a boatload Mr. Jobs.

I upgraded my iPod Touch 2nd gen to iOS v4.0.2 and it no longer interfaces with my 2010 Toyota Prius V (Nav+USB) through the USB interface. It starts playing music, stops one second into it and a second later I get a message on the iTouch saying "This accessory not supported". It worked fine with iOS 3.x.x for 7 months. I swapped cables and still not working. Anyone got a solution? Anyone seeing the same problem? I'm tempted to downgrade to 3.x.x (or toss it out the window).

I have the same problem with my '10 Camry SE. I have a 2nd gen iTouch I updated to iOS 4.0.2 and now it doesn't work w/ my car. It plays for about 3 secs then goes either into "error 5" or "iPod error". Unplugging the USB and plugging it back in doesn't fix the error. I don't care at all about which version I have on my iPod so I'd gladly downgrade to v3. Can you inform me on how to do this?
