iPod Touch no longer works with car stereo after 4.0 update

Well, my 2nd gen touch with 4.1 loves to play music on my Hyundai Genesis coupe.... until I try to change artist or albums, then I get a "Connection error" and it's dead until I re-connect my ipod.

Another ipod touch that is still at version 2.x works fine....

I recently updated my ipod Touch (2nd generation 8Gb) to IOS4.1 and it now won't work with my car stereo (Kenwood KDC 6541U).



Everything worked fine with version 3.1.3 but now when I connect (using the USB port) the stereo keeps flashing 'reading'. There is no software update from Kenwood for my stereo, and since everything worked fine before the update, I'm guessing its a problem with the IOS4.1 update.



I hope apple come up with a fix for this soon, as I spend a lot of my time driving and am lost without my ipod!

I have a similar problem with the Audi 2005 interface.

Apple is brilliant, but it appears that the perpetual software changes that eliminate or restrict connectivity mean only one thing:

Every time you upgrade iOs, just buy a new car!

If you bought AAPL @ $12 like you should have, you could afford it.

same happened to mine after the download, it wouldn't play in any of my devices. I have a strong suspicion that part of the 4.0 download added a tracking program that is verifying the device that your using, so Apple have even more tracking capabilities on you/us! After messing around with trying to fix it for about half an hour I gave up and then just left it in my philips stereo to charge the battery (the wi-fi was switched on), then something happened and all of a sudden it is now fine and working again. my guess is was registering the device I use to Apple. You may just need to plug it into your car for a while, and leave it connected to the web/wi-fi. hope this helps.

i have the same issue with my ipod touch.. since upgrading to os 4.1 my ipod will no longer work in my truck with after market radio. The screen will just say "reading" i hope this issue will be fixed in november with the update of 4.2 in the works..until then im back to cd's 😟

I synced my iPod touch 32G today and iTunes pushed software version 4.1 down to my iPod. Tonight when connected to the Dodge 730N entertainment system through the iPod connector cable, after playing a song for about 1 minute, the system quit with a Communication Error message that required the iPod to be unplugged from the 730N system and then reconnected and the iPod input reselected on the 730N system. Prior to tonight, the iPod had worked fine with the 730N.

Apparently this is a version 4.1 software issue from what I'm reading. Anyone else with this problem with the 730N?

Has anyone had so much as an acknowledgment of the problem from either Apple or their vehicle/car stereo manufacturer? All I'm getting is stonewalled from both sides. I'd just be satisfied to hear, "Yeah, we're aware of the problem and we're working on it."

Same issue with my 2009 Scion tC. no aftermarket stereo equipment, 2nd gen ipod touch worked before the most recent update, now the stereo won't even recognize it when i plug it in. sure, it never supported charging, and it used to get confused and freeze up once in a while, but other than that it worked the way it was supposed to.

Guys... I had the same issue. but just installed the new OS 4.2 released yesterday 11/22 by Apple and now its working. Ply try it.
