I got up this morning and didn't notice anything until I left the house and was on 3G. Right now my iPhone 4 says it has full 3G signal but no data is transferred or loads. All apps just spin the wheel and nothing happens. No error message that it couldn't activate the data network, it just times out. I reset it once and 3G data worked for about 2 minutes; right after it turned back on I got 8 emails from Google Sync Exchange that I didn't have seconds earlier. Then it stopped transferring data again.
I am at home right now and just restored it as new. Still nothing. Is anyone else having a problem with AT&T's network right now? I'm in Frederick, MD about an hour north of DC. I can place calls and text just fine. It also runs fine when I use wifi.

The Maps app in iOS4 is supposed to have higher quality images so that may be why on edge its not loading.
I just called AT&T for like the 15th time and they say that they are having data issues with 3G on multiple towers in the area and are working to resolve it and also indicate that some of the towers seem to be working and your phone may sometimes hop on one and work then fail as soon as it hops to another.
The iPhone will revert to Edge if no 3G signal is available, however the towers are still broadcasting a 3G signal that works with Voice as well and because of this the phone is not going to downgrade to Edge.
Well it seems to be an iPhone 4 + AT&T issue. My brother's 3GS is fine. People at work also had no problems with their iPhone 3G's or 3GS's, the only other person with an iPhone 4 right now had the same problem as me.
so mine is now working fine.... last night i had download speeds of less then 100 kbs but today my speed has actually double from it's original speed to anywhere from 3000 to 4000 kbs!!! the first time i tested it when i got my iphone it was downloading at 1700 kbs.
I feel like I've had the same problems with 3G here in Salt Lake. I notice it most during my commute. It reminds me of the issues they had with the original iPhone 3G where the connection would get lost moving from tower to tower.
A coworker here that also has an iPhone 4 has had the same issues.
I think this is more an issue with iOS 4.0, and not necessarily AT&T. At my office (in Chantilly, VA) more than half of us have iPhones. Several with new iPhone 4's, several with iPhone 3GS' - 2 of us haven't upgraded to iOS 4.0 yet and they are the only two that have had no issues with 3G at our office. The rest of us have had to switch to edge to get any data connectivity. This has been going on for the last few days or so. Again, no issues at all with the 3GS' that are still running 3.1 but the 3GS' that were upgraded to iOS 4.0 are having the exact same problems as us with new iPhone 4's....
