Iphone not ringing?

Hey guys. My iphone 4 is my first iphone so I'm new to this. My iphone will be sitting right next to me (with full bars) and it won't ring when someone calls. I will see that I missed a call but my phone never rang. Also I've noticed that texts will be delayed sometimes. Basically my phone is exhibiting symptoms of low reception when it is untouched on my desk with full bars. Any ideas?

I'm having this EXACT same problem! iPhone 4 is on desk, full bars, no problems. No rings or texts come through. Then I leave and move to a different cell tower (I suppose) or reboot and ding-ding-ding, voice mails, text messages, and e-mails flood in. People say that they called or texted and never got a reply and never got an answer! Ugh! I originally thought it was related to wifi connections, but now I'm not so sure. It's happened many times and is happening to a co-worker with iPhone 4 as well. Both of us like our iPhone 4, but are anxious for Apple to refine some of these quirks. Not sure how long I can patiently wait tho...

Hello all...

I'm on iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0.1 on Australian Vodafone Pre-paid network.

Have a similar issue where I would call my iPhone from a landline, ring tone suggest that phone is ringing, but the actual iPhone device itself is not ringing.

Thought it was the network, so I got myself a new sim - same problem.

Use other (working in other iPhone) sim on the problem iPhone - same problem.

Tried calling out from the problem iPhone - same problem.

The only fix for me was to reset the iPhone by going to: Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings.

Hope that helps others...

The question is - what was the root cause of the problem? Hmmmm...

Hey, I have progressed from the 3 through all iPhones up to and including the 4s which I am about to throw through my window. I am running 5.0.1 and have just had to restore the fone for the 3rd time in a week coz it is giving me grief. Never have I had such an issue with apple but honestly I'm over it. I have not received or been able to make any calls/txt all day (again). Funny thing is that the person I'm trying to call gets the call on their end, they all say they were talking but on my end, it shows 'calling' and then freezes. I power off and back on and same trouble. I'm Telstra post paid, bills paid and know my way around apple but this is a joke.

My iphone 4s quit ringing when someone called. I thought it had something to do with IOS 5.1 because I had just installed it, but that didn't seem to be the problem. I reset everything -- that didn't work. Then I read about the mute button you posted! I bought an Otter protective cover for the phone the day I bought it, and other than flipping the bottom tab up to charge it, etc, I didn't even think about their being ANOTHER button under a flap that I couldn't see! Often I just toss the phone in my purse and don't think about it. Somehow that tab must have been flipped up and the mute button switched on and I never even realized it. Thanks to your note, I switched it back on and it's back to ringing -- Thanks for the help on something that seems so simple!

The newer iphones have a mute switch (its an elongated slide switch above your volume switches +&-) on the upper left corner of your phone - you may have hit it accidently. When your phone is muted, a little orange line is visible inside the switch. This is really a great feature- because you can just move the switch to mute when you are in a meeting and they ask to turn your phone ringers off rather than having to open the settings. But I have forgotten to turn it back on occassionally and wondered why my phone was going staight to voicemail. I hope this solves your problem.

I had the same problem with my IPHONE 3 and now with my IPHONE 4. After playing with them for a while I can say that it is a bug in the sound or ringtone software. Why?

I checked, double-checked, and triple checks on all settings to include the ringtones but all attempts were unsuccessful.

For now on my iphone 4, I had to do this.:

1. Go go - Settings

2. Select - General

3. Scroll down - Select - Reset

4. Select - Reset all Settings

Note: After having done that the phone starts ringing again when called. If you have other solutions in resolving this problem, I would like to hear about it, since I did not make any changes to the configurations or setting prior to these IPHONE's stop ringing. I highly recommend that APPLE take a good look into this issue or their SOUND and RINGER APPS. Thank you, good luck, and have a beautiful day.
