Ipad applications close unexpectedly

I have a 3g 64 Ipad. I brought many games in itunes, the problem is that when I'm playing the games the Ipad keep closing the games and start changing from page to page without pressing any button or touching the screen. I tried to restart the original settings but didn't work. What can be happening here?

I have the same issue. I like tower defense games, and for example Bio Army 2 on my iPad 1 would close out after a minute. This was due to memory usage. So, what I did to fix it was to turn off certain settings that will run in the background and suck up memory causing application failure. What I turned off was iCloud, any push settings (Email), locations setting, etc. Then I reset the iPad (Home and Power then slide to turn off). After that I was good to go.

I got tired of looking at log files and seeing a constant string of crashes due to memory limitations. Not sure if the next release will fix this on the iPad 1, but we'll see.

Agreed, this is driving me crazy, seriously crazy. I do not have much installed on my 1 year old iPad and just before the mandatory iPad software update a week ago, before which I always kept my iPad up to date, it started closing stuff on its own once a day. Now, after the update, it is several times an hour! I surf the web, read books, the occasional podcast, and play mahjong and all of these quit without warning. Just before finding this thread, iTunes closed twice on me and safari closed three times all in the process of a transaction! Please, please find a solution for this! I keep my iPad clean and shut it down regularly. It's really an issue for me as this is my bread and butter system besides my desktop. Please doesn't anyone have a solution other than reboot? Sounds like bad IT advice.

The problem is that the software isn't releasing the memory. So, when you have multiple applications vying for 256 MB of Ram the last one in always quits once it's used what's been left behind. The only way I've been able to make my iPad usable is to not use the added features (Location, iCloud, etc) that run in the background. Albeit once they go into standby they should release the memory, but I think it's still being held. So, turn off all features like iCloud, Location, push email, etc and power down and back on the iPad.

I know it's not perfect, but if you make it a habit to double click the home button and close out any applications not being used you should see that you'll have far fewer crashes. I rarely shut my iPad down, and just close out unused applications and haven't had too many issues since then. Hopfully, if/when the iOS 5.1 comes out it will fix this issue but we'll have to wait and see.

Wow - thanks so much for the tip about double-clicking the home button and closing any applications that I'm no longer using. I had no idea that apps stayed open in the background. When I double-clicked my home button the first time, a ton of apps appeared that were still open. Now that I do that routinely, I haven't had any more issues with apps suddenly closing.

I'm having all the same issues too. I'll be browsing Internet or using apps and it just quits and goes back to desktop or main screen. I already did a software update and tried the re-start buttons but still doing it. My ipad3 is a few weeks old and has never been wet and is stored correctly in a case. Is apple fixing this or do we get a new iPad?
