I had the same question myself and finally found the answer. Hopefully this answer will help you and doesn't just tell you that you don't know what you're looking for.
In the top right corner of your screen, there is an apple button. Directly to the right of that should be the bold word 'Safari'. Click that and many options will appear. The 3rd option down will be the preference option. I hope I helped! If you want to access it quickly, you can press command comma (,) and it will take you to it.

To get to safari preferences you:
1 .Open Safari
2. Look in the top left corner
3. Click on the word Safari
4. Preferences will be the 3rd choice
