If anyone submits the feedback to create an iBook reader for mac, maybe they could post it here... just to see how many are requesting it?
I was hoping that Lion would include an iBook reader, but it's not on the list of 250 new features. I submitted my feedback as well.
In the meantime, I am using Adobe Digital Editions (free) and selecting the desired .epub format book from Home folder/Music/Itunes/ Itunes Music/ Books.

Adobe Digital Editions cannot read most paid-for books from the iBookstore, and that what people are complaining about.
I bought my first iBook on my iPod this week while I was on the road. It was the new Steve Jobs biography. I figured I could continue to read it on my iMac when I got home. I was surprised to find there is no app for this!
The funny thing is, while reading a review of the book, someone said they didn't buy the iBook from Apple, but got the book from Amazon because they provide a reader for the Mac. I briefly wondered what he meant. Now I know. I guess I should have got the Kindle version instead.
I have sent feedback to Apple about this. I don't know why I can get a Mac Kindle reader but not one for Apple iBooks!
I bought the Kobo edition, it was a tiny bit cheaper than the other two and they have a reader for the Mac, iOS devices, as well as access to your purchased library from a web browser.
